Is it too late to apply to set up a theme camp? I'm new to the burn, and have art to give away that was made by a SF artist who passed away in 2009. His pieces sell for an average of 160$ per print, and I'm giving away a few hundred as my gift. It's actually his gift, I'm just trying to share it with others so his legacy doesn't die. Each piece tells a story and its up to the recipient/viewer to decipher. It's all original signed digital word art (most 11x14) and it's absolutely beautiful and stunning.
My thoughts are to come in a large box truck and set up some sort of display inside, a Nor Cal reggae/Rock musician will be coming with me (hopefully) and he'll be playing his music. Since we are virgins, I'm not quite sure how it works to get a nice area, etc.
Can anyone point me to a link or give me some info/advice? I've been holding on to this art for 5 years waiting to give it away at BM and finally I think I am in a position where I can attend the event. (Pending my ticket application, etc).
Thanks n advance!!

Re: Set up a Camp
When you say "pending my ticket application", do you mean you don't have a ticket? If so, that's the only real issue you have.
You don't need any permission to set up a theme camp, you only have to apply in advance to have your camp placed by the Org. You can set up in the open areas wherever you like.
"A nice area" is pretty much anywhere.

An art gallery in the back of a box truck with live music playing sounds like a great start for a camp, esp for your first year.
You've got some research to do, check the first-timers guide on the website and read it well. It is too late to apply for "placement" - aka a reserved camp site, but you can still make your project and find an open spot when you get there, just like all the other non-placed camps. (There are plenty of other threads on here about what to expect upon searching for a camp site). Good luck!

Sounds like a terrific project for a camp! Good luck on the ticket.
Re: Set up a Camp
Others have said it here, but to be clear: you can set up a theme camp anywhere that is unclaimed land once the gate opens on Sunday. "Placement" is for certain areas of the city. My camp has been placed and unplaced over the last ten years, and one of our best years was unplaced. We were a fun, interactive camp set up in the outer streets, but because we weren't surrounded by a ton of other interactive camps, we were very important on our street, and became a central meeting place. Placement isn't everything - the environment you create is more important, particularly if you're a young camp. Get your ticket, dial in your interactivity, and then worry about "where" once you get there.
