Curved trapezoid?

Our camp will be in a plaza for the first time which means that I am going to have to move circles, squares and lines around on the camp diagram to make sure everything fits... Or start letting air out of tires in late August.

Am I correct in plotting our "irregular" space in the form of a curved trapezoid? I understand that the first number is frontage so I am planning accordingly. (Small frontage, big backage...)

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is the approximate square footage. Hard to do with an irregular shape a brain that explodes with the closest whiff of math.

We will be getting less space than usual so we have to make cuts somewhere.

Looking at the plazas, the camps around them have a rectangle part away from the plaza and the trapezoid you speak of. You can neglect the curve. Try http://www.1728.org/quadtrap.htm

Exactly what dimensions/drawings did placement give you?

If placement gave you a scale drawing, you can always make little paper cutouts of tents, vehicles and structures and tetris them.

Sure other plaza camps have faced the same puzzle!

Think trapezoid, not so much the curved part. Yes, they show the plaza's as nice neat circles on the maps but they aren't that in real life. A loosely straight line will work (depending on how much frontage you have. Just give yourself a few feet of wiggle-room at the plaza frontage and you'll be fine. Also remember that there is designated parking this year, no matter how much some of us hate it. You can use that to move unnecessary vehicles from camp. We always have a small spot, we plan our vehicle placement carefully & everything else seems to fall into place.

Great link, now I can see that the shapes are really irregular. There is no way to plan for an exact layout so I should just enjoy the chaos. (That's what our first camp set up day always is, anyway.)

We were given a 60x100' area. My biggest challenge in design is getting all the camp's public attraction on or near the 60' frontage.

We generally get about a 40' frontage, and what works for us is creating a "U" shaped entry (open end to the road). it's basically creating a mini-plaza with our stuff around it - being a single-focus camp, we have our two RVs making up the sides, and our dome as the center. Signs go on the backs of the RVs facing the street, our newspaper box is on the street front. I've seen larger camps do similar, but with structures making up the sides (carports/ domes etc). Just make sure to use something to close the camp-end of the U so you have a private area beyond that.

You have 60' frontage on the cross street, but you also have ~1/8 of the plaza circle as frontage. Your placer will know the diameter/radius of your plaza, and you can calculate from there.
