Is A Cargo Trailer A Bad Idea?

Post by f-ur-burn » Tue Jul 12, 2016 12:25 am

I was looking into renting a pop-up trailer tent but the cost is creeping up there. A cheaper option would be a 6x12 cargo trailer. Do any of you have experience using a U-Haul trailer as shelter? Any tips and advice would be appreciated.

LMGTFY: Yup, Box trucks are used for camping.

See 'Gaminwench' for details. She camps in one I believe.....

Yes, I do.

And I love it.

I have, over the years, camped in tents, RVs, and yurts.

I love the box truck.

You'll need:

Carpet.
Yummy bedding & mattress.
'S' hooks to hang ALL THE THINGS.
A table for kitchen, vanity, work space.
Fabric for 'doors'.
All that other camping stuff.

So easy and comfy.

They might be a little short to stand up in but otherwise are good. Just make sure nobody latches the door when you're inside. :D

And make sure someone didn't haul swine to the auction in the unit you are renting.

Scratch and sniff before you rent.

Exactly. I wouldn't sleep on there unless I had padlocks through the open latch preventing that possibility.

Ask FIGJAM about sleeping in a trailer with no air supply...

Its called a playa coach, sir. And its surprisingly not bad but it does not circulate air, ever.

The 6x12 is livable. I tried the 5x10 once and damn that was slumming.

Try to get the barn doors instead of the rollup as there is wider access into the box, and no tracks mounted to the ceiling which reduce the actual internal dimensions and available packing space.
