Hexiyurt Questions

Postby pterodactyl » Mon Aug 07, 2017 12:15 pm

Hi All-

Second time burner here. I bought a used hexiyurt last year- it's been on the play in 2015 and 2016, and I'll be using it again this year. The bi-filament tape wasn't covered in foil so it peels off pretty easily. My Question: do I need to re-tape it with bi-filament tape, or could I leave it on there and maybe just cover it in foil tape this year. I appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance.

You should probably get some more bi-filament tape. You don't want your structure falling apart while on-playa.

Peel off any old tape, it should easily come off. Cover any bare spots or edges with foil or bi tape
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

I retape ALL seams EVERY year. The bifilament tape loses its stickiness more than you may realize. It may hold up just fine but in my mind, the expense of a couple rolls of tape each year for my shelter is worth it.

I'm givin ghtis a nudge over to the Building Camps and Villages board, since that's a better fit for questions about building structures and camps.

I retape any filament tape that wasn't covered with foil tape, it's useless for a second year. Most of my foil-covered tape hinges are still good going into the fifth year on this hexayurt, the tape can't be peeled off without damaging the yurt panels.
