Transporting EMT Conduit to Playa on SUV

Post by vostvark » Wed Aug 01, 2018 1:19 pm

I need to transport 16 EMT conduits (8x8',8x10ft) for the shade structure and they fit fine to my roof-top cross bars on SUV, hanging only 2 FT behind the car - I use duct tape to make sure they do not move within "group" and then strap to tight it down in 2 groups to both sides of the car. Cross bars weight limit is 150lb, total weight for emts < 100lb.

If they are strapped down fine and do not move at all, pass the "brake test" - will there be any issues with law enforcement on the way to Playa? Do I need to put a red flag or the rear end? Any recommendations to avoid unnecessary contact?

Thanks!

Cali State law is red flag at 4' overhang but local laws might change this.

What the hell, why not hang a flag? Show the cops what a law abiding citizen you are, someone who goes to church and calls his mother every night. :D
Oh, and don't forget to hide the roaches.

Why the fuck ask about the red flag?

Just do it.

It’s 2’ in most places.

California Law.

Do not carry anything in or on a passenger vehicle which extends beyond
the fenders on the left side or more than 6 inches beyond the
fenders on the right side. Cargo extending more than 4 feet from the
back rear bumper of the vehicle must display a 12-inch red or fluorescent
orange square flag or 2 red lights at night.

Figjam, I think of you all the time. My yard is filled with cactus. You are the moving master.
