Looking at the accessories available for securing my structure with guy lines. Do duckbill anchors work better than, say, a long piece of rebar? Since we're on this subject (again), what's the cheapest, bestest anchor component for a tie-down?
Regarding tie down "straps", are ratchet tie-downs advisable? It seems they'd be good because you can adjust the tension while installing and then re-adjust throughout the time you're there. Thoughts?
Securing a structure: Duckbill anchors? Ratchet tie downs?

You know, I looked through A LOT of sites that advertise duckbill anchors without finding ONE that tells you HOW TO GET THEM OUT OF THE GROUND.....They look GREAT for long-term installations, but if you'll have to dig 'em out later, I'd say they're wrong for the playa.
A piece of rebar, pounded in deeper than one foot, can be REALLY hard to wrench out. It'll hold LOTS. Those screw anchors can loosen the playa as they go in, reducing their effectiveness- But you can make 'em work (a little better) by really leaning on them or using a stick/axehandle/somesuch as a helper.

Unless you're securing a huge structure I'd use rebar.
Some of your other questions can be answered here:

You can use ropes but since I'm not all that good with knots I opted for ratchet tie downs. Pull up on the release handle to give slack, ratchet away to tighten things up. So simple even I could do it.

Yeah, I figured the duckbills would be a real pain in the ass.
S3, thanks. But thanks a lot for those pics (especially since it's helping me imagineer how I'm going to do connectors, tie-downs, etc. which has been kinda fuzzy so far). Is that a Cosco carport or some other brand (if so, which one?).
Edit: Where can I get "soft ties" like that?

Check motorcycle/ATV/RV stores for those soft ties... here's an online source.
