Seeing there is no internet to speak of on the playa. Figure your just keepig note/picyures on the lap top. Keep it in a case in a plastic bag. There are lots of claim times that you can use it in you shelter. You might spray a mist on the floor. Cuts the dust. I don't think you will want to take it out in the hot sun. Screens get all rainbow and hard to see. I F-ed a camera in the sun. $600 down the tube. Sides if you have the thing with you. You can only drink with one hand. I take the cameras out in the mornings. Just to shoot the art. I'm old and have seen enough teat.

Common sense is the only way to go.

Store it in a closed bag.
Do not use it in a whiteout.

Take a deep breath and come to terms that there is no way to keep the dust out. Just let go.

If it makes you feel better, bring a can of compressed air and blow out the laptop every few days.

I have taken the same laptop out for 5 years and the dust did not harm it one bit.

The only way the playa dust will be bad for electronics: spill liquid on them and cause the dust to become corrosive.

The rest is just speculation and myth.

Actually, Ive brought mine every year and I cover mine with Frisket Film. Thats the sticky stuff airbrush artist use to create sencils. It works great and comes off easy after the burn.

Also there is playawide WiFi. Its open no wep/wpk key required. Closer proximity to center camp helps with the gain.

Cheers

Try taping a breathable filterlike material over all the cooling ports and make sure if you dont have something that covers the pcmcia card slot that you seal it somehow.. keep headphones in the jack and cover the unused ports like ethernet and modem with tape, unless your dragging a 24 port switch out for us to share :)
