Musically challenged - looking for help!

Our camp bought two new speakers (Peavy PR15) two years ago and they have been giving us grief - overheating (we think) and shutting off periodically. We're looking for someone in the Bay Area (preferably East Bay or on the Pennisula) who can inspect and, if needed, repair them. Does anyone have any recommendations? Any leads would be much appreciated!!!

Sounds like a connection problem....if I remember correctly, speakers just don't go in and out. Id check your wires and amp before the speakers. If your not on the grid, it could be your power source.

Do they have overload protection?

Peavey used to be massively inefficient.

TomServo - the speakers are self powered so we don't need to run them off an external amp. Unfortunately for us! I suspect that if they weren't your suggestion would have been much easier/inexpensive than what we will likely need to do...

Gyre - I'm not sure. I'll check with my campmate who owns them and get backatcha.

If self powered/internal amp then you need to run a fan behind them to keep cool.We have had a pair of Mackies for 10 years now and do a"fan check"every 15 minutes while playing just to make sure.O/w they will cut out like yours seem to be doing.

Gyre - they do have overload protection. Can you send me some info on the referral. We'd like to have them inspected regardless what the problem is.

The driver experts I know are in Memphis, Speaker Services.
But it sounds like Zorro nailed it.

I talked to a Peavey expert here, and he says that is a smaller chinese sytem, and he thinks you are just pushing it too hard.
How are you using it?

There are two types of overlaod protection on it, with different reset times.
If you are running light loads, you may have some technical issues.
He is willing to help you find something larger if you want to upgrade.
What you have may be doing all it can.
