Sound system rental?

Post by percussivepaul » Tue Jun 28, 2011 9:50 pm

My camp uses a smallish sound system to supply background music for performances and occasional afternoon dance parties. Last year it was a 400W amp with 400W passive speakers. This year the gear we used to have is unavailable and we are tossing around ideas for how to replace it. Renting was one option but none of us have any experience doing this.

Is it possible to rent this type of gear for burning man?
Can anyone recommend a good place to ask? Most of the camp is in Davis, CA though there are some in the bay area. I imagine there could be trouble renting audio gear during Burning Man if suppliers are super worried about damage.
Roughly how much might this cost? Are we better off trying to purchase used gear instead?

Thanks

If what you rent ends up getting damaged you may end up purchasing it anyways.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

The self amplified Mackies (SRM-3/450) and JBL's (EON) hold up well on the playa if sheltered from direct sun, and are available used on Craigslist and in pawn shops. If I were a rental company I would not take back playafied equipment, and I would check all my rentals that time of year for the impossible to completely remove dust.
