Digital SLR to the playa?

Post by pmattf » Fri Jun 25, 2004 5:36 pm

I am heading to the playa for the 6th time this year, so I am well aware of how insidious the dust can be. For the past two years I brought my Canon S50, and I got some great shots (see http://www.imageevent.com/pmattf/burningman ), and the camera did not seem to suffer from it.

Now that I have a Nikon D70, I am starting to think about whether I am willing to take it out to the desert. The D70 is not the best sealed camera in the world, and I have no idea how well sealed the Nikon lenses are. I just got a 24-120 VR, which I would probably leave on the camera the whole time, to avoid exposing the inside.

My assumption is that I would probably have to pay to have the camera professionally cleaned afterwards, which I am willing to do, but I am not willing to permanently damage the camera or the lens.

Another option is something like this -- http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... 362&is=REG but using that would get old really fast I think.

Thoughts?

Crayons.

Crayons really work for capturing the moment. Well, at least for me.
