Attaching EL-wire to sheet metal?

Post by Dork » Mon Jul 19, 2004 6:58 pm

I just got a bunch of 2.3mm el wire in the mail and it's thinner than I had expected. Damn metric units.

Anyhoo.. I need to somehow apply this stuff to sheet metal. My initial thought was to drill holes in the metal and use zip ties or wire, but that would leave lots of unsightly holes in it and unsupported spans that could be snagged.

Packing tape? Some sort of glue?

Could you use hot glue to attach wires. Then attach el wire with these wires. Or run a (flex) plastic tube with the el wire in it 8)
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.

sorry to point out union john, but hot glue will re-melt in the playa heat..

But one way I see on motorhome and alike is to drill a 1/4 hole and shoot a bead of silicon caulk through it and place the el-wire into the caulk.. the caulk is held in place at the hole..

Or use GOOP adhesive, which resists playa heat too and is marginally less nasty to play with. Plus, it'll peel off later if you work at it enough. If you read around the Eplaya enough, you'll see that I recommend the damn stuff often enough that I should be getting kickbacks from 'em.
You could drill TINY holes, and use knotted fishline too.
