Television Reception
Television Reception
First, let me just say I know that watching television is sort of antithetical to the whole idea of burning man.
I'm a Researcher with a popular satirical news program and we're looking into doing a piece at Burning Man this year. One of the things we need to know is if it's possible to get antenna televison reception on the playa.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Probably the best way to find out the answer to this is to come out this year, bring a TV with a set of rabbit ears, plug in and start pointin.
I find that nothing is more relaxing than being at burning man and catching up on my seinfeld and simpsons reruns.
but no 'friends' it just doesn't feel right....

Tell Jon Stewart to get his pasty ass out to the playa in person and stop using his lackeys to get the work done for him.
You could always bring a working Directv dish with you and point it to the Southwest. No problems with terrestrial interference, but the dust will probably kill your IRD.
But seriously. TV on the playa is like a Hot Dog on A Stick stand in Mecca.

Second that. With a new baby, I dunno how much string he's got in that retractable leash, though.TheJudge wrote:Tell Jon Stewart to get his pasty ass out to the playa in person and stop using his lackeys to get the work done for him.

Terrestrial Broadcast TV, no.
Satellite, yes, no problem there.
The Daily show pointed out the other night that The Republican National convention is the same week as burning man. Would be great to have a daily live feed report from BRC to contrast with the RNC lunacy in the world's greatest year round theme park, NYC!

I disagree Steven. I love the Daily Show, but I think it would be completely awful to broadcast a tv show from the playa. I think the less people see BM as filtered through their idiot boxes and the mroe they expeience it, if they are willing and able, the better.Steven bradford wrote:Terrestrial Broadcast TV, no.

Imagine the tent where all the guys from ESPN set up their camera equipment. It's right next to Camp Do-The-Dew in Pepsiville. Celebrity passes required beyond this point please.
Now, beyond my little dip into the hyperbole pool, I think that Burningman should be experienced first hand and not used as the ironic counterpoint to a GOP joke.
