taking an offline copy of parts of burningman.com to playa?
So I don't know exactly what is given to you at the gate, a map and a book of printed events and ....
But there is a ton of info on burningman.org that I think, might be wrong, I will want access to once on the playa so I can look for stuff that I have an interest in, like descriptions of certain theme camps even if their locations are given, some of the events that might not make it to the printed booklet if that's what they give out, and shit, I don't know.
Anyway, does anyone crawl or otherwise save a copy of parts of burningman.com website on a ipad or something so they can reference it on the playa. Or is that just silly and Ill be too overwhelmed by what's just around the corner to give a damn about what is listed somewhere.
and if you do, what app or technique do you use to save it?

If you can't write it down don't worry about it. Most things are inaccurate anywho.
You can use burnermap to see where your friends are and jot a few notes. I used it pre-gate, but never looked at it once I was on the playa. YMMV
You'll get a WWW booklet upon arrival. If not, like lemur says check out playa info for what you're looking for.

I print a simple document listing my volunteer shifts, & an alphabetical list of friends & acquaintances and their approximate addresses. I might list one or two parties of very specific interest, but it's unlikely I'll make it to most of them.
I prefer a paper list so that I don't lose my phone or get dust in it. (I don't touch my phone on the playa if I can help it.)

Yup all good advice. I usually take the guide they give you at the gate and try to circle all the things I want to see. I'm lucky if I actually get to one or two of the things I've circled.
Though if you feel you must, there are a couple of free phone apps that were developed by burners that have a lot of that information.

You'll never need that stuff. For those who feel they'll die without more information and listings of things to do than they'll ever be able to experience in a week, get the freebie iBurn iOS app or some other such thing. Make sure to update your app right before you leave, they do a big update with the latest dump from the playa events calendar and other sources.
More importantly, get over your fear of missing out. You can't see it all. You can't see all the good stuff. Hell, you can't even see all the incredibly good stuff. So spending time worrying about that is time that could be better spent going places and doing things and swimming in the deep end of the experience pool.

This. My first year there was a camp that I had decided, pre-playa, that I absolutely had to visit. I never made it there. They were 1 block away from my camp.trilobyte wrote:So spending time worrying about that is time that could be better spent going places and doing things and swimming in the deep end of the experience pool.
There is stuff happening 24 hours a day in BRC, and there is absolutely no way you will see even a small percentage of it. Even when you head with purpose towards something you can end up distracted & on the other side of the city from where you planned to be. Learn to live in the now when you're out there, and leave the plans at home.

The best stuff in BRC never makes irt into the guides anyway.
Just walk down your block and soak it all in.

I stared deeply into the foul, stinking hole of a badly sulfated battery cell, and longed for the simplicity of doing things "in theory" on the internet.

That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.

Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.

Mulch, if you want to bring it, it's ok with me...pdf files of all sorts are stored on my communicator for perusal during downtimes, whiteouts, and rain. I bring snivel gear too, no one really gives a fuck. Fuck your day means fucking your day for all its worth.
