speciel LED lights?

Post by pr0letar » Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:16 pm

Hi
So new to forum thanks
i am buying this one. cus i need it for a chair.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60pcs-5050-SM ... 5d5964b6a0

specs here

Code: Select all

Type: Module 3 LED 5050 SMD

color: Cool White/Warm white/Red/Blue/Green/Yellow
LED quantity: 3PCS
Beam angle: 120 °
Light Source Life: 50.000H
Working voltage: DC12V
Power: 0.72W

Protection class:IP68
Adhesive fixed: double-sided adhesive
Shell color: Cool White,Warm White,Red,Blue,Yellow,Green
Size: (about)75 * 11 * 5mm
Standard cascade: 20pcs

So i would jusat like to know if anyone can tell me how many hours it can run on a 12v battery.
also is it the all 20pcs thats 0.72W or only one of the LED's ?
I would be doing a homemade battery from 8xAA batterys unless someone else got a better solution :)
i would like if anyone could calculate the hours of running time on the blue or green color of the led light :)
Also just to clarify that the 5050 model is waterproof?

Thanks alot

Welcome pr0letar!

Judging by the dimension I would say it is 0.72W per strip - each strip has 3 LEDs.
Every 3-LED strip can be cut without damaging the rest so I'd imagine this is sold as 3 x 20 strips attached together.

The whole cascade (20 strips) will be about 14.4W, and with Alkaline batteries (~2800mAh) i believe it'll run for just over 2 hours before you need to change the batteries

And yup, these are rated IP68 thus waterproof

Not much of an expert on batteries  But I believe you're never suppose to discharge a car battery past 50% or it'll shorten its life
The running hours will depend on the capacity of the battery - I think typically they're around 45Amp-hours. With 20 strips it'll last about 19 hours before you need to recharge it. But you'll need to invest in battery chargers etc.

Alternatively I think 8 x Alkaline D batteries (typically ~12,000mAh) will last about 10 hours, although these can get a bit expensive too hehe

Car batteries range anywhere from 50-70 Ah all the way up to the larger ones which have anywhere from 140 - 200+ Ah each. I have a costume that uses anywhere from 1-3 amps depending on the controller patterns I'm running on it. I use lithium poly rechargeable batteries that I charge from a battery bank I keep in my tent (which is charged by solar panels and a generator). The batteries I use are 5.0Ah or 5000mAh. I use two at once and have a Y-connector so they're in parallel giving me 10Ah. That allows me to go for about 4-10 hours depending on how intense the lighting patterns are.
