1st time playa art sculpture

Post by benzy » Fri Apr 27, 2018 3:51 pm

Hey cats,
I'm hanging round these parts looking for the word on solar power, leds, batteries and all related playa art knowledge. I'm a noob to solar and may post questions while I research and try out equipment. Helpful advice welcome.. :)
Happy burning.

Use Google search with eplaya in the search. You'll find a plethora of info.

Mainly right now I am researching if my charge controller needs to have heat sinks and should I worry about +140f temps (prob not but lets not kid ourselves). The charge controller will not be in direct sun.. if y'all have any experience with over heating controllers, LMK. Thanks love

You should probably consult the manual or specifications of the charge controller you plan on purchasing.

Of course. But user experience is also valuable to me, product reviews often contradict manuals, etc. Thanks for the advice.

On second thought, I don't thank you for that advice. This isnt yahoo answers here. I'm a smart person who doesn't need to be splained how to do a google search or read manuals.

Benzy, your post provides no information about what charge controller you are even thinking of purchasing. In fact, your posts contain virtually no detailed questions or information at all except some variation of "I want to use electricity on playa."

For your charge controller, go read or look up the manual because your charge controller will probably have specifications that declare its maximum ratings, including whether it can handle "140+ degree F" temperatures. You could be purchasing something that already has a heatsink, fan, or must be indoors, or is being mounted to a solid block of iron, or has an open case, or can run on the Moon for all we know. It doesn't sound like even you know. Inspecific specifications and questions will return you answers that over-engineer your solution to cover all different cases.

We're not going to hand-hold you or anyone for generic "I'm a noob" questions that are so general and unresearched that pretty much any response would becomes a tutorial. Those are called "stupid questions" -- questions that are inappropriate to ask because the person asking hasn't done their due diligence on the topic as revealed by the inspecific or unresearched question.

It doesn't mean you're stupid. It just means you need to do enough homework to know the right questions to ask -- specific and detailed questions that you already tried to look up.

Harsh? Unhelpful? More like not-so-radical self-reliance. Please come back when you've done more research into this yourself and have some specific questions to ask.

Sure, I realized that I should have been very specific from the get go- I was only responding to the greeters station prompt- tell us why you are here.. would love to have deleted but thats not an option. Forums can be frustrating, we all know.
For future readers, no need to respond. I have the info I need.

Benzy: I'm torn between answering and "Don't feed the trolls". You are the one doing the trolling, Bbadger was polite, specific and accurate. You would do better to listen to his advice than reacting with bullshit.

Biggest douchebag on eplaya? Are the votes in? I thought that was Simon.

Maybe you'd feel more welcome at Reddit? Even some of those folk in that thread have come to terms with the fact that this forum is a great resource if only you'd put some effort into searching it.

Anyway, I've added a convenient link in my signature to plonk me if you don't want to read my responses, now or ever.
