I was curious how people shipping eu2000s with container trucks are packing them. They don’t fit the stronger bins that people seem to use unless you lie them down.

Is lying them down a bad idea anyway?

Yes and no... if you have to ship it laying on its side, drain the fuel, including the carburetor bowl drain, and drain all the oil.
If you don’t, it’s possible the valves could be open and you could fill the cylinder with oil, which won’t compress when you try to start it, which will bend and break stuff.

If you drain it of all fuel and oil to ship it, pull the spark plug wire so no one starts it.
Under the large side hatch on the lower right there’s a white plastic connector plug that is the ignition wires... unplug that too so the generator can’t be started by some moron.

Then make sure to refill the oil before you use it, and pull the spark plug out before and during the first time you try the starter pull-cord just to be sure the cylinder isn’t full of anything.
Then replace the spark plug, plug that connector with the ignition wires back together, add gas, and go.

And you get to take all that used oil out with you. All them extra hazardous fluids packed on your ride out before you can ship that baby back.

The Honda only holds a really small amount of oil, bring something like a bleach bottle for a waste oil jug.
They sell a cool little spout that screws in where the dipstick goes on a Honda EU2000 that makes oil changes easy and pretty much mess-free, rather than the guaranteed mess you otherwise have.
Order one, it’s really cheap and a must-have.
