Maybe one day I will figure out a good way to host one on the playa... my biggest concern with that would be the potential for MOOP since there's so many little bits and pieces involved. I guess if I did it in the dome, maybe sitting on the floor with a carpet we might be ok.... hmmmm,..... let me think about this......

Yes! We are neighbors! I am going to talk to my Gnomies and see if there's a day I could use either the dome or the big public yurt (side note - one of our camp leaders built this massive geodesic yurt for a Civil Engineering project in school, and its AMAZING! You guys will love it!) for a workshop. Wandergirl, is there a particular day and time that would work better for you?

Katie baby, Yes!! Let's do some, (drunken), crafts. I can think of a lot of things that don't moop. Mardi Gras beads go on in a string so you can't lose em. Shiny trims by the yard, cheap beaded necklaces that don't come apart, patches from Girl Scouts etc..., pin back buttons, Buttons, cheap silk Hawaiian lais, fur, fleece, shiny spandex, felt cut into shapes, there are limitless possibilities. Christmas is the epitome of tacky. Beaded garlands are cheap and don't fall apart. If you decide to have an event let me know. I'll be there.

would love to meet both of you! I'm game almost any (day)time. probably earlier in the week? (I arrive the weekend before.)
I'll bring along some other awesome costume-loving bra-wearing girls for sure, & check out SCRAP (and my closet) for supplies this week.

I wish we had a SCRAP in SD! I'm heading to SF tomorrow for a week

I bet it could be done in a minimally-MOOPy way. Maybe have ribbon for braiding and creating drape-y, braid-y... braid bits. You know what I mean.

I have collected lace table cloths and bedspreads for 30 some years thinking I would use them and I have just stored them all these years as it worked out so I thought now is the time to make them into something that would actually get used so I have been cutting and sewing lace like a crazy person. This is a wrap tutu that I made with lace from a very old round table cloth and a piece from a lace bedspread, scraps of an old blue chiffon nightgown thing my mom had and the hem piece of a blue vinyl coat as the waist band. It took about 4 hours of meticulous pinning and sewing to get it all together but I am pretty happy with the result. It is for my 6'2" amazon daughter and she wanted the two different colors of lace together:-) This did not cost me a penny, at least not one in the last 25 years!

I've been shopping the Goodwill bins here in Portland, where you buy clothes by the pound, and getting lingerie. I've been experimenting with dying the white stuff, and I'm pretty happy with it. I hope a picture is attached...otherwise I'll ask my IT guy (my unenthusiastic teenaged son) for help.

These are lovely Playafifi! It looks like there are lots of Portland thrift shop finds that will be on playa this year....we also have been combing the thrift stores around Portland acquiring costuming to gift at the burn:-) I love the color combos though! Great idea dying these gorgeous pieces.

I whipped up this heavy cape from a oval tablecloth and some old ratty bedspread. The neck opening turned out to be tooo big so I just sewed a couple of buttons on each side. An accidental improvement.

This little skirt thing was some old curtains and a very colorful belt. The curtains rip into strips so there isn't much cutting.

This rugged tutu is an old fleece throw threaded thru a belt. I cut the fleece on the 'not stretchy' direction so it would hold it's shape and look like leaves. Manly huh?

Christmas tree skirts make pretty playa capelets without much modification. I have one I love, but it never goes out to the playa because it has a beaded dangle trim.

tahiti_treat, I just stumbled on poly dyes at an arts supply store. I used Jaquard brand but there are other brands, too. A packet costs 3 bucks, and I mixed the powder dye in water in a small glass jar, and then poured some of it into the pot I was using to dye the clothes. You can play around with how much you need. but one packet can dye a lot of lingerie! It's totally a science experiment, and yeah, some things dye better than others, but that can actually look kind of neat, when, say, the lace stays light and the body of the garment goes dark, or vice versa.
