I want to bump Ratty's marvelous thread with this amazingly catchy ode to Thrift. (Odd premise, but give it a chance).

Spryte, Everything is gorgeous. The pants are great and the top hat too. I'm really impressed. You will look and feel accomplished, (if that's the right description), knowing YOU made this startlingly beautiful outfit. I'm working on a long white fur vest. I'll post it when I get to the stage where it looks like something other than the old bedspread that it is. You are very talented. Thanks for the pictures.

Ratty, I can totally envision you in the red & white outfit made of sweets . . .
Those are great pinterests. They remind me of a bunch of things I could & should be be doing. I've been meaning to make a recycled sweater coat for a couple of years--though never seriously enough, maybe this is the year. And I love the still from the film Scourge. I'm still excited any time I see a post-apocalyptic African-American girl. (Finally becoming not so rare!)

Re: Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper.
The light up top was pretty easy to make! Started with a padded bathing suit top, hotglued battery pack christmas light strands i already had(costs about $4 at krogers), covered the strands in an old purple lace top. rhinetones. and added a little bit of feather~which I would take off for the event. Then the back has a big bow covering the battery pack. Super fun (:

I decided to transform this old plaid, man's jacket. The sleeves are now on the back. I used them as the tails and lined them crudely with dalmation spotted fleece. I cut a little bit off of the front and stuck it on the shoulders with fleece fringe.

Re: Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper.
I made this for an upcoming party in February, but I think it is also potentially Burning-Man-appropriate. Three men's dress shirts later, and voila: a straitjacket.

I used the tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_KB7A3u ... oml7wY9bzg
I used nylon strips from the fabric store instead of belts because I couldn't find 6 black belts of comparable size at Goodwill. It was also much easier to sew.

I love your straight Jacket!! Do bring it this year. It looks like fun.
The 'how-to' video was good BUT the hoola hoop one that followed was spectacular.

I bought this for the comcept rather than the costume it's self. This is a black bulky knit sweater that was brush painted with shiny metalic paint. It looks like chainmail. I think this idea would work on any sweater knited with thick yarn. Black, brown, tan or olive colored would all look great under metalic paint. I plan to adorn this one with some metal hardware and leather trim. It will be quite a transformation.

I love your stuff Ratty! I have two identical fur type coats. I'll take a photo of one as soon as I figure out what I want to do with it.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.
