Earplugs tips
Re: Earplugs tips
I have tried lots and lots of earplugs. I have small ear canals and am a light sleeper. My very favorite for sleeping are these Moldex Pura-Fit: http://www.earplugstore.com/mopuuffopln3.html. Cut the ends if they are too long, but I haven't had a problem. This company also sells sampler packs.
For walking around and not being bothered by waaaay too loud music, or pulse jets, or vortex cannons; I love Etymotics in the standard size: http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html. The frequency response is almost flat at 20db down. I also have custom molded ones, but they do not have enough attenuation.

Re: Earplugs tips
So I tried my beloved silicone earplugs. They stood up to the heat no problem (inside the constant shade of my box truck, anyhow), but, after day one, they didn't seal to my ears properly because of the dust. I switched to ones shaped like this:

which worked great all week.

When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Re: Earplugs tips
My wife uses the shaped foam earplugs and sleeps fine. She doesn't have any problem with them at all, but I can't wear them for more than a couple hours before my ears start hurting.
This year when ready to sleep I wore my sound cancelling earbuds and while listening to music on my phone. I could sleep comfortably with them all night. They don't cancel quite as much noise as the foam plugs but the lullaby voices of Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux countered the playa sounds and soon had me in a deep slumber.

You are always smaller than anything that upsets you. Remain calm and solutions with boundless possibility will find your heart.

Mack's Pillow Soft Ear Plugs. They are amazing. You roll them into a ball and then they mold into your ear. I slept 50 ft from our Lounge which goes all night and I never heard a thing.

Thinking of getting ear muffs and replacing the cloth with (nylon) screen.. Or may be just the fabric from a dust mask..
