That is SO cool! I'd choose contrasting ribbon.DanusLight wrote:I'm working on a mask. The straps that will hold it in place are ribbon. I'm wondering .. matching ribbon or contrasting?

Matching - or contrasting don't seem to be a wrong answer for this one.
Although personally I'd likely go with matching.

thanks Trishntek! I found a paintball supply store and a couple military supply stores. I also went ahead and returned those other goggles to amazon and got my refund. Feeling much better now that I'll be able to actual test out the goggles prior to purchasing. Small crisis averted!!Trishntek wrote:Your search under industrial safety equipment provides that kind of stuff. They are made for short term wear while grinding etc. Go here:lazerfox wrote:They are this pair http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001YXFFMC.f.M. wrote:can't totally say without seeing them. Me, I'd return and start over. As much as you might wear the goggles, you want them to fit well and feel good.
The only reason I even noticed what everyone meant about the rubber is because I stopped at a sky gear store to see what they had and it looked significantly more breathable...hmm I have until May 30 to request a return so I will think about it this weekend
Thanks CFM

This is more like what you seek. Do you have a local military surplus store? Or try a paintball safety equipment supplier.
as if I do not already have enough unfinished & "un-started" projects now I have decided I have to make my own set of these little buggers:

Yeah. I just needed white, so I got mine from the thrift store for like....0002 cents. If you want black/brown/grey/ etc. try there, first (well, unless money isn't an issue like it always is for me).lazerfox wrote:I had broken it down to the coat hangers and ribbon but had not thought of pantyhose...can those be found in colors other than skin tone??C.f.M. wrote:I've made a couple of pairs of wings (butterfly and dragonfly style), it's easy. Target has different colors and lace-like designs.

Dye a wool hat?
I bought this wool hat for $5 last week. It's sort of a top hat, I think? Is it a women's top hat or what? I'm not sure, the label doesn't say more than large, 100% wool, made in USA. It's broken in just right though.
Anyhow, I like it and it fits, BUT! Powder Pink is NOT my color, nuff said.
I bought the hat thinking I'd come to eplaya costume thread and ask;
CAN THIS WOOL HAT & IT'S MATCHING HAT BAND BE DYED ANY HUE OF RED??!?? It says 100% wool, but perhaps with a mister bottle of 'wine red', low cost
Rit dye; I could spray it with several light coats of the dye and achieve a nice hue of red. Anyone have any better dyeing ideas?
[snark door is now also wiiiiide open--plz, go easy] I'm all ears, thanks!

Dyeing with KOOLAID...yay! Not sure how the ribbon will take to the dye as it may be nylon??
Hope you'll share results no matter which method you use to dye it--what a great hat!

Seriously, I'll have a closer look at the KOOLAID colors, I like darker reds and it'll cover over the PINK, I think. If the ribbon doesn't take the 'dye', assuming I do drink, er, try, er dye with the KOOLAID, I can always kill a rattler and skin him and make a snake skin hat band (or maybe a fur hat band?? that'd be easier than killing a rattler, maybe)

Yeah removing that ribbon will make you dye job much easier. That hat will take dye well if you don't soak it; light spray coats like you said.
Give it a good brushing first in to remove any greasy dust.
I would use fabric paint on the ribbon around the brim; you could get a bright metallic to pick up whatever lights you put on that thing? Or maybe even a strip of reflective tape! The stuff I got is really stretchy & easy to work with.

I DO dig the KOOLAID dye idea, do they make 'red wine' color? Hmmm, I'll do some color mixing (maybe I'll come up with an accidental tie dye look) I wanna be able to say it was dyed with KOOLAID!! That rocks.
Yea, I agree, brush it first MDF. The ribbon band; maybe it's best if I leave it on and try to work with it...or cover it with some sort of band. El wire hat band kit, snake skin hat band or some interesting store bought ribbon. I can weave beautiful belts and bands with a deck of cards, but it's SNOWING and I'm running short on TIME!!
Got sooo much outside prep left to do
edit for some clarity.

Do you think I can use epoxy to affix fabric to rubber? I'm adding a thin fabric and foam cushion to my goggles cause the edge of the rubber digs in to my skin a bit. I know the epoxy will stay stuck in the heat of the desert, but I see no mention of it being effective on fabrics (I'm using whatever fancy stuff I find in the bargain bin tomorrow, so no specifics on what kind of fabric at the moment).

I'd imagine it depends on the texture of the fabric. It might not work real well on real smooth nylon, but might work great on a more course nit.
I've always applied to the theory that a two part epoxy will stick just about anything to just about anything else.
