Just wondering if anyone has been out to the playa recently and what the status is on the surface? is it going to be a mudfest or has the playa dried out?
In muddy conditions, gum boots ftw, but if the playa has dried out and is more or less dry (whether it is hard or soft doesn't matter, its the wetness that creates mud), then regular playa boots will be fine as per usual.

Honestly, I've found that barefoot is best in playa mud; plastic bags over shoes/boots are a distant (unattractive/awkward) second.

In addition to plastic bags, I have seen people do just SOCKS on the playa after a rain--if they absolutely had to be out and around, for whatever reason.
If one doesn't mind trashing and bagging a pair of socks for a week, it's a great solution.
(You still have to wash and moisturize your feet afterwards).

I saw a photo of standing water as of Jan 24. Could be a good sign, but I am not sure where that is relative to the city footprint.
