These are the best reviewed ones I've seen in a while (though too dark for rare nighttime use):

ETA: I have these and like 'em just fine for the nighttime dust we got last year on Friday and Saturday nights, although this year I think I'm going to change their physical appearance:

Got some of these from Northern Safety. They were $13 and are supposed to be good for windy and dusty environments. They're comfortable and seem like they'll do the job.

I got a pair very similar to this if not exactly the same. I thought they looked super cool.
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/graphics/13-06310.jpg

I wore them last year I think Friday night, when we had the pretty nasty dust storm.

They sucked!
The leather padding that sits on my face, didn't allow any ventilation (I know, duh!). I'm pretty much sweating from the time get to NV to the time I get out of NV. They fogged up on me really really bad!!!
Though, they might work well for people who's body temperature actually does go down at night.

Went to the dollar store and bought swim goggles.

Image

Lite, nice fit, and fold up to put in a pocket.

I put them on and there was so much distortion in the lens, I just could'nt cope with it.

So I got my copeing saw, drilled a hole at the edge of the lens, and cut out the offensive pieces.

Had some dollar store reading glasses, so I took the lenses out and gooped em to the goggles.

$2 goggles!!!

They fit close enough that my sun glasses can be worn over them. 8)

I have been wearing cheap thrift store sunglasses for 12 years, supplemented by a Pooping Man scarf. You blink a lot, but it works. If it really gets crazy, I use hard plastic safety glasses from a hardware store.

YMMV.

Has any one tried these? Or have any insight as to their quality?
They seem like they will take up a lot of space in the day pack.

These are standard military, got 'em at my army surplus store, sand, dust and wind goggles. If you don't have huge glasses you can wear them over your glasses. Cheap. Probably $10-15. Bought two pair a few years ago.

The whole idea behind what I do is that I need the skin around my eyes to have air flow. It keeps down sweating and fogging. If it's filtered w 100% cotton muslin then you're good. I have worked (WORKED!) out there all day regardless of weather conditions. When you're dealing with 50+ mph dirt storms, the hard plastic goggles come out but you still need to filter the dirt.

One of the most important tips I have ever received was from Bogman. He exclusively used regular sunglasses, and he was the operations manager of the Rangers...for years. He just said: you blink a lot.

My BEST advice is that any sunglasses you take out there, wear them for a week in default. Make sure they don't give you a headache or fog. They will be your eyes. Respect them.

Good luck.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

I have a pair of Bobster motorcycle goggles I've used for three years. Very comfy, work great for daytime (polarized). You can see 'em there in my profile pic. But I was staring at them a couple weeks ago and thought "how boring!" so I glued some ball chain necklace around the goggle edges, sewed a bunch of cool buttons and fleur de lis charms on the elastic. They look so much more fun now.
