Playa corset care tips?
Playa corset care tips?
I'm thinking about ordering my first corset, but the company says all their corsets are dry clean only. Does anyone have experience with dry cleaning playa dust out of more delicate materials? Also, sweat isn't an issue for me in loose clothes because it's so dry, but what about in something this close-fitting?
This will not be some $500 custom affair, but I'd still like to get it nice and clean when I get home if possible.

Corsets aren't really "dry clean only." Did oh, all the centuries in which women and men subjected themselves to corsety have dry cleaners?
Two considerations:
the boning (metal or plastic?)
the fabric
Odds are, if you don't actually stain it, you can just brush it clean.
If you need to wash it-wash it, I'd hand wash.

I hand wash things all the time anyhow, I just don't own the sorts of fancier fabrics these corsets are made from. But I'll give it a go--thanks!
What do you mean by "fancier?" Silk? That's about the only fabric I can think of that would require extra care.
Make sure it's properly lined, so the outside doesn't get sweat stains.
Yep, silk or satin. The site I'm looking at has a variety of both--haven't decided which I'm going for yet. And all are lined with two layers of cotton twill, so hopefully sweat stains won't be an issue.
There is info online about hand washing silk and satin, but I didn't know if there was anything about playa dust that would affect those recommendations.

I really didn't have any issues, washing anything, as far as playa dust.
Who are you ordering from? Will you get me one while you're at it? I've never had a real one (worn them many times, just not owned one).
Have you looked on Etsy? There are some excellent corset mongers there, for less money than many sites like Savage Garden, Darque, etc.
Me, I pimp out my old aquaintance Psyd Delicious.

Oh good! This will be my second year, and in '07 I didn't bring anything nice, just lightweight cotton shirts and skirts and random thrift-store stuff...and most of the cheap costumey things were never washed

I'm ordering from Timeless Trends. A friend just got a corset from them and loves it, says it comfortable and high quality, and most of their designs are only $100! Also they're all in stock (not custom) so I --and you!--still have time to get one.

Wow, there is some really awesome stuff there! I'd unfortunately blow through my budget this time, but bookmarking this for sure.
Ah, yeah, I'd def not pay much more than $100 for one of those. That is a super basic design and materials, pret a port - an advantage to getting one handmade, say from at Etsy person, is that it will be of course measured to fit you.
None of them will be very hard to clean.
Short torso v. long torso, even coverage through the hips, etc.
I hope you love it, which ever one you get!

I wear a 3X, hard to fit, and I found a corset on eBay for $25 and free shipping. It can be done. They aren't best quality, but would give you some idea of the fit and comfort in the heat. I've taken a good one too, it hand-washed just fine with a dash of vinegar. Vinegar takes out stains in the real world anyway!

Yeah, I figure if I have a good "off the rack corset" experience I'll get a really nice, custom-fit one

Thanks so much for your advice!

I'm pretty sure, given that the only size option is "medium," that just means that's the only size they have left.
He'll make anything, I'm confident of that.
