Hair extensions? Where do i get it done for cheap???
Hey
I had my hair in braided extensions last year and it made things SOOOOO much easier, I had it done while I was in Thailand right before burning man.. and alas it only cost me $30.
I checked out some salons to do it this year...they wanted between $400-$1000 for the same job!
So then I checked out a few beauty schools and a couple girls offered to do it for $300.
Does anyone know somebody that would do it for cheaper? Or maybe for trade of a ticket or something?

Just for the sake of argument...
How about alternatives to this practice? Frankly I'm a little tired of seeing everyone with the same hairdo. You could:
-- braid you own hair in corn rows (I used to do it over 20 years ago)
-- braid your hair in pig tail or a ponytail
-- wear your hair in a bun or twist
I've found that if you wash and condition your hair every other day it stays in reasonable shape. Very easy to do with a solar shower. Just one for the Non-weave Team here.

not for my hair type!
I personally love all the weaves out on the playa, just adds to the colorfullness of the playa. Plus for my hair type, this is practically necessary! The dry dry dry heat does a job on my hair, cuz its thin blonde and fine, but also very very curly, and so a simple braid or twist turns to dreadlocks in a matter of days. Plus the weave is a perfect air conditioner, all you do is get it wet and it blankets your shoulders and back with a nice cool moistness!
I'd suggest this: http://www.quikrete.com/
Works for all my hair extensions - except when it doesn't.

Do It Yourself?
Well, there's something to be said for the popularity of things that WORK.Frankly I'm a little tired of seeing everyone with the same hairdo.
To answer the original question, there's nothing cheaper than doing it yourself! http://www.quinnster.co.uk/ provides some very useful do it yourself instructions for braiding in synthetic hair, written for folks with Caucasian hair who haven't done braided extensions before.
I plan on putting in braids this year because I realized that I spent quite a lot of time un-braiding, washing, brushing, and re-braiding the six braids that in I wore my long hair in last year (every other day, but it still sucked).

cheap hair braids
Check around on craigslist and other places...you can get them as cheap as $150-200, maybe less if yiu get lucky.
If anyone is interested in learning to do it yourself, I will be holding a FREE workshop on August 8th here in Los Angeles (the valley area)...I have limited space so first come, first...well you know.
It will start at 11am and go til maybe 3 or 4 and if there is enough time, or people want to stay later, I will also teach one way to make cool dread falls (or braid falls) for those who want to be able to take them out at the end of the day.
