Morphsuits on the playa?

Post by Dr awkwarD » Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:59 am

How common are Morphsuits out there?

I've got one that I was thinking of building a costume around, but if they're all over the place, I'll do something different.

Also, anyone who has one, any tips about wearing it at the burn?

I wouldn't say they're incredibly common. I'm pretty sure I've seen a few around on the playa, but I've also seen them on Halloween and other random events, so they all blend together for me. Would give you good sun protection, but may get pretty hot!

I've seen them, and think they're still interesting. Seems hot, and not in the good way.

I certainly can't speak for wearing them on the playa (yet :) ) but I've worn it here in St. Louis during the summer, and it's really not as warm as you'd think.

I had to google to find out what they were and came across this awesome one.

Edit: In reply to the original question, I don't recall seeing many of those at all on the Playa although they are pretty common in BM videos.

For other folks that didn't recognize the name Morphsuits, after googling it I realized its essentially (if not exactly) the same thing a Zenti Suit.

I've seen a few out there, not a bunch. Like Drawing a Blank I have seen more in Burning Man videos than I have in real life.
The bright green Zenti Suit seems to be done more often than any other. Maybe because Charlie on Sunny in Philadelphia wears one a few times, and calls it Green Man.

"Zenti" is just as foreign to some of us.

I think I've seen 'em before out there, but one sees other costumes much more and they're still often enjoyable anyway, so don't worry about it. I don't think anyone can say it's overdone. Make yourself happy.

Your burn is your own.

Not all Halloween costumes translate to BM. I enjoy meeting and talking to strangers at the event. So I am not a fan of costumes that significantly obscure the face (except temporarily during dust storms...).

If you are in an area with regionals or groups of burners, you can get in-person costume advice as you prepare this year. You can also experience the several on-playa costume supplying and styling camps.

I'm kind of the same way. An obscured face, to me, says either "performance" or "dust storm". Both of which are legit. :) If a person wants to cover his face and be a Thing of Mist and Shadow all day, that might be exactly what he needs. It seems like there's both freedom and distance in that, and who knows what else.

Sunglasses and goggles are so ubiquitous out there, however (not to mention anonymizing) that when I make a new acquaintance, I often ask, "Show me your eyes! If only once." I don't really feel I have met a person until I've seen their eyes.

I looked into the but my fashion advisor and hot or not judge Tootled told me they are passé.

That may have more to do with him not wanting to see me in skin tight suit though!

Thanks for the advice. It's a bit more than a "Halloween Costume." Here's what I wore to Mardi Gras this year:

I'll probably bring it and see. I've got some other costumes that I'm putting together. I'll probably change them up depending on how I feel.

When I see these I have a hard time breathing.
You don't want to ride in elevators with me either. I actually was worried about dust masks and dust storms with my claustrophobia but had no issues.
