Easy sewing for playa wears for the everyday fat girl

Starting my sewing for 2015. Being a fat girl trying to find playa wear is a pain in the ass and usually super spendy. So I have started a thread for us fellow fat chicks on easy to sew playa wear. Please post your ideas or creations!

Sort of the way you would sew these. Take just a square folded in half and cut a head hole and hem along edges.

all of these are very basic sewing needed. No measuring really and have found swimsuit cover ups to be VERY comfortable out on the playa. Airy and light weight so you do not get to warm.

I have never made a pair. I think im going to whip a pair up on the serger today.
Why does hancock have to open at noon on Sundays. Thats way late!
Going to make a fur hat as well. 1 part for playa and 1 part because its been like -30 here with the wind chill as of late. Might sew some of this other stuff to if i can find some fabric that is the right weight and not to spendy.

Actually now that I remember I did make a pair of wrap arounds for Sadie about 4 years ago. Pretty easy except for the pattern of the material. It was silk with a paisley pattern. I was surprised that I got the pattern to match up evenly where the seams met. I'm really not a great seamstress...

I've made a couple of different types of fur hats including the spirit animal style. I've akso made 2 big full length w/ hoods fur coats lined with satin. They're heavy but super warm.

Ratty posted how if you take a wire brush to the inside of the fur it will soften it up and you don't have to line it. Going to try this so can have a lighter coat

I like sewing for the playa because no one notices crooked seams

I made a pair of wrap-around pants from a tablecloth with a great border print. I put the border at the bottom of the legs and it looks great. Fabric is so expensive at the fabric store these days, I tend to look at other textiles. Tablecloths from Ross are one source.

I have a large (very unique, vintage) collection of those India batik and silkscreen print wrap skirts that I wear like a dress. (Bought most of them on ebay, collected a few at thrift stores years ago.) After tying it, I take the corner and tuck it in the top. (I don't wear anything underneath.) Here in Tucson, I can wear them year-round. At BM I wear the rattyest one during the day and the best ones early in the morning for sunrise. Used to wear them tied as miniskirts and go topless . . . last year was the first time I didn't -- need to lose a little weight, get a nice tan. I wear the ratty ones around the home, they are always above the knee when tied as a dress. My best one has gold-lame -- I've worn it to clubs and concerts (without high-heels . . . with flats) where I'm usually the oldest person there, lol. I'm wearing one in my profile pic!

I like to make oversized accessories and use them as clothing. The big necklace or scarf becomes a substitute for a top. A belt becomes a tutu or skirt.

Sheer curtains make great skirts and capes with no sewing. Just run your belt or fabric tie through the channel meant for the curtain rod. The short valances make wonderful bustles.

If you use elastic instead of a belt you can wear this as a strapless dress.

Go to the dollar store and buy 2 packs of large safety pins. Hey, at Burning Man you don't even have to hide them. Safety pins make great art.

Just putting this out there- mens brief underwear work great to prevent chafe. They do come in extra long too- on of my girlfriends chafes all the way down to her knees at BM.

if you're OK with underwear... during the day, i live in a bra and bikini bottoms. once i add my hat, collar & necklaces, camelback, cargo belt (with tail!), and knee-high boots, i feel surprisingly not "basically naked".

that was my point. bikini bottoms and a bra is pretty skimpy attire on it's own and would normally leave me feeling quite exposed. but you pile on a crap ton of extras and POOF! burning man outfit.

there's lots of gray area between naked and clothed on the playa is all i'm sayin'. "clothes" doesn't have to be skirts and shirts and shorts and pants.

Even at 15% I feel fat, its my dam brain....anything above 20% and im a gym maniac hehe.
