What's the single best thing you've worn on the playa?

It may just be November but I'm all pumped up for 2016!

I was a virgin at the Cargo Cult burn and in my frenzy of grabbing anything and everything that could be made into an outfit, I brought a single piece of soft cream-coloured fabric, about 10 feet long and about a foot and a half wide. I wound up wearing it like a shawl or a scarf thing and it was wonderful in the environment! The wind would come up and make this huge flowing thing wave around coming out from my neck and on the dance floor it was a gorgeous prop for my body to work with.

I burned a lot of stuff that year and it's the only thing I regret burning. With all the sweat and dust and likely other stuff on that scarf it would have been a real keep-sake.

Do you have some single special item of clothing that has marked your Burning Man experience?

I love my See's Candy Lady uniform. I dress it up with red accents, wild wig, make-up and jewelry. Every year I have a blast handing out hard candies in center camp and doing random candy deliveries. From Wednesday on a little piece of peppermint, butterscotch or cinnamon hard candy is a treat. It also gets me on ANY of the large art cars. (That's an added bonus at my advanced age of 60 something.)

I have so many favorite clothing items for the burn...I'll just bite my lip and move along.

For me, it was several beautiful and inspired airport themed outfits that a wonderful and beautiful burner friend made and gifted to me.

ooooh. tough question. I would have to go with my dusty trusty grey faux fur coat. It's light enough to not overheat me on warm nights, but warm enough to keep me toasty when needed (and a layer is added underneath). It doubles as a blanket over me at center camp, or to lay directly on the playa to sit on for a picnic.

My second runner up would be my extra large silk scarf. It can be a dust abatement face mask, a hair cover, a wavy pretty pink cape, or a small blanket sun cover.

My red fez. My first year I didn't have any real "costume" stuff, but I did have a red fez that I received as a gift. I thought the fez would stay on a shelf for the rest of its days, but it's been to the playa every year I've gone.

Aside from, I believe, looking good, the best part is that it keeps my head warm without being an annoyingly large hat. It makes for a great night time hat.

I'd have to say the bra I wore this year. It had racing EL wire in two spirals on the cups so that they formed two hypnotic spirals. I call it my "hypno-bra". It was a pretty big hit. Beyond that, my favorite thing to wear would be clothes.

A wide brimmed hat with a solid chin-strap.

After that its clean underwear, 2 - 3 pair clean socks to be changed throughout the day, and good quality broken-in boots.

And pants. Definitely pants.

$2 lace skirt a veteran burner grabbed for me at a thrift store run. She said it would be perfect, I had my doubts, wound up wearing it for my daytime outfit most of my three burns. Guess she knew what she was talking about.

My breezer hat. My flame coat I made ages ago. And my red abaya with the scarf and underskirt. I also like my kalwar sameez sets and muumuus/nightgowns/Mexican housedresses.

Wrap around prescription glasses with transition lenses. Never had to take them off whether it was day/night/dusty/clear. Eyes were always happy.

Couldn't pick a favorite I don't think, but a consistent favorite for the last 3 burns has been a long, heavy denim utility "kilt" [quotations for purists who get butthurt].

Also a set of 4" platform boots are a great playa clothing item.

On the other hand it's hella fun to go run around wearing neon body paint with a portable UV umbrella, so like I said, hard to pick a favorite

I had some very comfortable manufacturing sample three way stretch pants with a psychedelic pattern. They were colorful, unusual and were a great tactile experience. Then I ran into someone with a top of the same material at the event. Love! Another friend stole those pants from me later when I was in the shower and it took a year to get them back.

For my carpool in the year I went there was a guy who brought a bunch of tulle for making tutus. So for Tutu Tuesday I was wearing some really skimpy shorts and a completely patternless multicoloured tutu. I had that, a glowstick necklace and a yarn lion mane headpiece from an old Halloween costume. It's unfortunate that my best night of the burn was so early in the week but that night was legendary.

While preparing I also bought this little cougar plushie which I hollowed out and added a liner and a zipper to the back of, to make a little purse thing. Worked out really well.

For the boots, I'm also in the "2-3 clean pairs of socks per day" camp, but I wear them with really thin canvas shoes. I guess I'm lucky because the dust didn't seem to bother my skin that much.

Gah, makes me want to get back to the burn so badly!

My fav, of all times, is a denim mini-skirt made from a pair of pants. Got it from a little fashion exchange right next to my camp in 09 or so. So nice an airy, unlike my utilikilt.

i can't pick a single item! i have developed my perfect daytime uniform of cowboy hat, bra, bikini bottoms, cargo belt, camelback, and knee high combat boots. all black, of course. i would seriously fucking cry if i lost the hat, belt, or boots.

I paid $0.25 at a thrift shop for a witch hat before my first burn, thinking the wide, stiff brim might be useful. It worked exceptionally well and is now my signature item.

Unexpectedly, the witch hat gets me tons of comments while biking around, including an honorary certificate from Hogwarts for being exceptionally knowledgable in wizardy and witchcraft. It probably looks dumb and sometimes catches the wind like a sail, but I love the hat for serving a useful purpose (shade) while adding a bit of whimsy to my otherwise fairly utilitarian garb.

Gloves. With all the mechanical work I do, from assembling the shade to repairing bicycles, I cannot let my finger-tips crack -- which easily happens out there. (Heels, too.) So... lots of lotion, and gloves. Some pairs become soaked with lotion, but I bring lots of them. (Of course, here I'm not wrenching, but having lunch!)
The goggles are also handy to have, since my eyes can be sensitive to Dust.
But "mechanic" type gloves are the single best thing.

This was my first year. I took some old jeans, smeared different colored paint on them then wiped it off with a wet cloth so it just left a little color. Then I stenciled red stars all over it and put a rhinestone in the center of each star. It looked good.
