Canopy Parts - Order 'em NOW

Post by GreyCoyote » Wed Jul 23, 2014 12:12 pm

For whatever reason the usual vendors for conduit canopy parts seem to be overwhelmed this year. I talked to three different vendors this AM and they are all back-ordered for many of the popular sizes and form factors.

Example: I ordered a bunch of pieces from YSBW on July 8, 2014 and they indicated they had all of it in stock. A few days later however I got a call saying a couple of things were back-ordered and wouldn't ship until the 21st. Today I followed-up and was told the stuff wouldn't ship until the 29th at the earliest.

This is cutting it rather close.

So I called another vendor. Same problem. They couldn't guarantee it would go out before Aug 1. Another vendor checked stock for me and was out of nearly everything I needed. All three vendors said they had seen quite a run in the last 4 weeks.

The moral of this story is if you are thinking of getting canopy parts for this years burn, Git 'Er Dun now or its possible you won't have the shade you want.

Time to go to your local swap meet and ask the venders there where they got their parts.

Some will have a cash and carry local source.

I gave up on waiting for YSBW to get 5-way fittings back in stock and bought a used Costco carport from local burners today. :)

I just got a couple of fittings from Creative Shelters in Paramount Ca. Took about a week to get here.

Wow! That was what held up my order too! My order is more than two weeks backlogged.

I finally pushed on them today kind of hard and they shipped my order. They got a return in, scavenged it for the 5-ways, and used 6-ways for the rest of the backordered parts.

I hate to say it, but I wont be using them in the future. Nice folks, but disorganized and slow and they dont communicate very well.

I don't want to pile on, but my order was messed up too. They sent me some 4 ways instead of 3 ways. But....all I needed was to text them a pic of the 4 ways and they sent me 3 ways. So that was good. But what was bad was the 3 ways were welded together crooked, making one of them unusable. Instead of dealing with another return (and I saw here they were getting overloaded), I made the 4 way work.

I can maybe understand a mistake in sending wrong parts, but I can't understand sending out parts that clearly were distorted. I would still order from them, but the lesson here is to order early so these type of things can be rectified.
I'm a fixer. I fix things.
