Air filters for RV A/C and fridge

Post by stupakov » Sat Aug 20, 2022 4:32 pm

Hello!
My camper van (class B RV) has a built-in air conditioner and fridge.
Each of these has air vents to the outside world.
I plan on using both appliances, and got some appropriately sized HVAC (pleated paper) air filters to cover the vents. Thinking I'll attach those with blue tape as soon as I get on playa.

I have some concerns though:
- When dust collects on the filters, that will limit air flow
- Does this add any risk of overheating since heat dissipation will likely be worse?
- Will blue tape be strong enough to keep them on or is there a better tape for this?

I'd appreciate any tips on how to balance keeping the appliance internals dust free and making sure they operate properly and safely 🙏

Thanks!!

Both of those units need to be able to breathe freely in order to function as designed. I'd leave both as is and take the necessary time to clean those areas thoroughly afterward. Those are both serviceable areas that can be cleaned out, the internals are sealed and isolated from these areas. The ac passes only inside air through itself, the vents on the roof are to rid itself of hot air from the condenser coil so that it produces the desired effect inside.

Impede heat dissipation, impede effectiveness of appliances.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

+1 on what Jackass said.

Not worth it. Clean out instead.
