Butane Gas cans cool?

Post by bleed » Thu Aug 22, 2013 9:35 am

Hey guys! I'm bringing a generic butane gas stove this year and was wondering if I need to keep the cans cool to keep them from exploding? Would they even explode from the heat?
Sorry! Virgin burner here!

Just leave them in the shade. I doubt it'll matter anyway.

You're more likely to suffer problems from leaks by not hooking them up right to your stove. For the latter, hook up your canister -- do not turn the stove on -- and put some soapy water around the valves and piping that connects to the gas valve to see if any bubbles form. If bubbles form there is a leak of some kind and you need to make sure your seals and pipes are okay.

They'll be fine. Keep them in the shade as much as possible. Just don't put them on the dash of your car in the sun.

I use a butane hiker/climber stove for quick camp.. It folds to a pocket size. The gas
come in small cans..

We used to use a butane stove, kept the cannisters in a bin under the table. Make sure you know how to put a cannister in properly, we had a campmate melt the side of the carport when the leaking butane caught flared up. Exciting.
