Prebuilt Swampie Reviews??

Post by Inappropriate » Thu Aug 01, 2019 5:41 pm

A buddy and I found this swampie,

https://www.toolots.com/ahm-45.html

Now I'm trying to figure out if it is worth buying as I have a h15 yurt and my beefed up 5gal figjam just isn't really cutting it. I've thought about the 20gal or the 55gal, but this thing is cheaper then the materials.

SO I figured I would put it up to you wonderful humans. Anyone have experience with one of these guys?

Cheers,

It uses 11 gallons of water an hour, that's 88 pounds of water an hour.
It appears to be designed to sit in the cooled space.

It'll probably work great, but it's an energy hog and will suck a battery dead in no time. The figjam coolers are designed to be frugal with energy consumption.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

True, from a power stand point it is a monster compared to a Figjam. I will be bringing a honda 2200i so I would have the power to run the thing.
And an absolutely excellent point about the water. That is a bit much... While we are on the topic through does anyone know the water consumption of say a 20gal Figjam? Just for comparison.

If you have to run your generator the whole time anyways to remain cool, then you might as well just buy a small wall a/c unit.
Then you can just listen to the a/c drone on instead of the generator outside, and bonus no water is needed.
The figjam unit is made to run on dc, which means that you'd be running stealth, without the constant use of fuel or a running gennie

Oh jeez, you got the sexy Honda and you wanna fiddle with swamp water ???

Get a small 5K or 8K BTU window AC for less than that swamp monster.

The modification to a hex should be simple and minimal for the small units.

~ 16 or 18 inch rectangular cutout and some support from 2x4s or such on the part hanging out the back.

Nothing like some grand AC in a hexayurt. Downright chilly.

As always, nothing but quick and informative sage advice here on Eplaya.

Thank you gentlemen. I will be passing on the aforementioned prebuilt swampie.

Good find on the water consumption, fuck me would 11 gals an hour be a nightmare. Thing only has an 11gal tank. Ya it's cool in my yurt but I have to leave every hour to refill the fucking thing.

Well Cheers Gentlemen!
