Flat vs Peaked Canopy
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge as to whether there are any advantages/disadvantages to using a flat canopy versus a peaked canopy on a shade structure for use at Burning Man?

Re: Flat vs Peaked Canopy
*If* you use solid tarps, peaked will shed rain instead of collect it. When it rains at Burning Man, the shit under shade (rugs, chairs, passed out people) will get wet. No big deal. Put important stuff in a carport that has sides (and is also peaked). On a peaked structure, you have three different connectors to account for.littlemonkey wrote:Does anyone have any experience/knowledge as to whether there are any advantages/disadvantages to using a flat canopy versus a peaked canopy on a shade structure for use at Burning Man?
I like flat top. It's easier to set up, and you can do a whole structure with a single type of connector (5 way) if you want.

It’s called a carport, is readily available, affordable, and Playa proven.

If you leave the legs off of one side of your carport it will have a flat roof. This is easily set up by one 65 year old lady. Make and bring a suitable 'stick' to prop up the flat sections of your roof in case of rain. We've done it twice in the rain. Works like a charm.

I'm curious if anyone has tested a solution to carry off rain at the connection when 2 carports join gable to gable or low side to low side?

Peak requires additional corner connectors and poles for the peak/spine. Flat top allows future mods and variations bc the parts are more interchangeable.
