Has anyone had any experience with swamp coolers /air cond?

We are bringing an RV and hope to try to keep it as cool as possible.

I have heard of swamp coolers which have evaporative fans and can run on a car lighter (DC). Has anyone used these? Do they work? Can you recommend a model?

Thanks in advance.

See

Instead of a garden hose, use your in-RV system or buy a garden sprayer and pump it up. Instead of water, use kerosene. Light a match once the mister is running.

I'm wondering about cooling and power requirements, myself. Check out this thread: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... ler#162578

Hi,

I used an auto(12v) swamp cooler powered from a 125watt solar panel last year, inside my hexayurt. It kept a localized area around the bed cool enough to sleep under our large warm quilt until at least 2 or 3 in the afternoon. We never slept in past that but I imagine it would work all day. I would describe the air as very cool, almost cold. Burning man is pretty much the perfect enviroment for swamp coolers.

It did almost nothing for cooling the entire space, you couldn't even really tell it was on unless you were in the draft.

Some of the larger house fan style swamp coolers might work, but they draw quite a bit of power.
