Hello Community
I am looking to team up with an art car that shoots flames to shoot a series of portraits of burners on the playa at night. The goal is to find some one with a torch mounted on there project low enough to the ground so that I can get enough light on the subject for a proper exposure. I would be using either a metallic backdrop or black felt for a studio feel and will be shooting the entire project on high speed b+w film with my Hasselblad 500. I love burning man. This will be my 4th burn and I cant wait... Lets team up and make magic on the playa.

I'm not sure what you mean by "low enough". Rest assured that even though safety (and the DMV) insist that you point the thing upwards, and have it out of casual reach, any flame thrower will shed plenty of light. (And heat.)

i dont see why it matters to have flame as a light source or a reason to involve an art car if youre basically doing everything to remove traces of the flame and burning man/mutant vehicles
using b/w film removes all the color in the flame ... so why not just modify some ugly other light source to match how the flame looks on faces? ...should be a lot cheaper than using propane
using a backdrop makes it so burning man wont be seen in the background.... and apparently not the art car that will be 'collaborating' ..
if you want a portrait of people at the burn then do that..bring your own light source

I agree, Burning Man is probably the best back drop ever.lemur wrote:using a backdrop makes it so burning man wont be seen in the background.... and apparently not the art car that will be 'collaborating' ..

Though, the "Black Rock Year Book" has a nice feel with the white background, and people in burner clothes. It really lends it self to that sort of idea though.
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole
