Re: Dubstep producer/DJ looking for stages!
got an email saying i got a response to one of my threads on eplaya... i knew something bad was coming
I'm sure it's not ALL dubstep. Besides, somebody will be blasting something you don't like, it's a city. I'm not forcing myself on anybody... just want to blast some of my music. Besides, what goes better with flamethrowers than dubstep?
I appreciate the warm welcome.

I'm OK with just about all music except rap - unless the rap has a message of empowerment or some other positive theme.

Re: Dubstep producer/DJ looking for stages!
yea, I listen to pretty much everything, good rap, even some bad rap... used to be in a rock band. it's really the way to be.
For outdoor concerts tho, I just love bass music. There's something completely insane about a small area of space emitting such large sound.
And besides, all EDM, is very similar. All music in general... you really can't be that picky.
At least people aren't playing disco anymore.

But can you dance to it?
(Looks like a sanshin)
Anyway, we are detouring the OP's thread.
Although it would be great to hear some unique ethnic music on the playa.

I agree with that. I think as far as western music goes, its hard to please everyone. None of its generally 'new', and it's so easily folded into the in-group/out-group relationships that dominate our existence.Ugly Dougly wrote:But can you dance to it?

I'll always appreciate all music, but each person has that certain style that will always make them want to rage face and dance goofy.
So, coming full circle, back to the topic: I will play dubstep somewhere if you want me to. I will not push it on anyone unwilling (given certain sonic limitations), you do want you want, and if you'd like me to play dubstep, done.
lol, awesome video. i actually wouldnt mind seeing that live. it's kind of frightening, but so is lots of metal.Zeke Chaparral wrote:How about Tuvan Throat singing? I uploaded this song on our podcast. LOL

No, at least in our camp, you will play dubstep only if you want to.

Nope, yes there is a polka loving contingent on the playa. Do the sound camps cater to those that want accordians and tuba rather than whatever whomp-whomp style is in fashion? It's two-step! Easy to dance to! Yes!

I came across a square dancing camp once.

I'd be down for some oompa, or some wompa. I'm sure the two meet somewhere:

I mean really, I think it's probably mostly up to the theme camps to pick the styles. I'm sure there's an equal availability of all EDM style DJs (I can barely throw a rock in Chicago without hitting a house DJ), you're probably just going to find less people willing to ship a tuba to the playa than someone that'll tote a laptop with them.
I still think it's a freaking miracle you can have any sort of pro audio on the playa.

Yeah, too many wimps. In 2010 I brought two full-size 600-pound pianos. Here's one of them. No-one seems to have caught this guy's name, but he could play like a god. Bringing real musical instruments is worth the effort!...you're probably just going to find less people willing to ship a tuba to the playa than someone that'll tote a laptop with them.

That is really awesome, and I agree! I can guarantee that I'll personally gravitate more towards the live music. Live music always has the element of performance art to it. Electronic music and their DJs is always more... studio work (or 'live' studio work). It's something you slave over at home and then showcase publicly.
Live music is much more personal and organic. Electronic music will never be a replacement for that.
I don't want to DJ a set that doesn't have any of my originals in it. I'm not about throwing the best party, I'm about making music. Unfortunately that music happens to be dubstep (sorta), which is rather contentious it seems... but it's what I love! I'm fascinated by the level of production/arrangment that goes into it, and that 1 person can achieve that level by themselves. If it's just wubs and I don't hear the musicality, it's garbage. If it gives me goosebumps, then I love it.
Either way, I hope everyone continues to bring music to the playa, all of it. (Maybe not the dueling sound vehicles).
