I like the relation to the fertility rate, but it's kinda depressing
As a web programmer, I couldnt help but think of Web 2.0 (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0). Web 2.0 was a sort of revolution of web, where usability and functionality take over, and social channels are used to spread ideas.
I like to think of it more as a kind of 'next-gen' fertility, fertility with functional purpose and dedication. Back in the day, legacy meant making babies, otherwise you might just die in your hut (back in the day, we all lived in huts) and you'd be slowly forgotten. Having children meant your ideas could live on through them.
My take on Fertility 2.0 is that its the new-wave of spreading ideas. Instead of through our kids, we are offered many exciting vehicles in which to spread our ideas. Burning man is definitely one of them. The idea that I will be 'reborn' at Burning Man (woop woop!) implies that I will be birthed with the ideas and culture of the amazing people surrounding me.
While I'd like to just wear a giant penis costume (great for all seasons!), I think it's best that I take a deeper approach (no pun intended). I for one truly believe in this personal rebirth, and I'm going to make it my aim to 'midwife' others through it as well
