Noticed on the 2012 map that we have two ghost streets this year.

Do you think they'll open these up given that we've got >60,000 friends showing up this year?

Re: Streets M and N
It depends less on the number of people than it does the density of the camps. If you base it off of last year's camp density and scale the population up, then no it probably won't be necessary. The placement team (as well as others within Burning Man) keep an eye on the city makeup and the amount of available space throughout the week, if things show signs of getting tight they'll get things going so everybody has room.
Re: Streets M and N
More than likely, they did in 2010. We camp on the outermost road when the event opens (K) but ended up with sparse neighors to the west. One couple got there at sunrise, spent the next 6-8 hrs cussing and yelling obsenities at one another and were gone by the time we woke up- burning's not for everyone
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Yeah, but the initial map only went to K in 2010, and it was a smaller footprint. Growth from 2120 feet to 2400 feet between the man and Esplanade, which greatly increased the size of the city.

Yeah, I forgot about that particular little detail. I was wondering why they didn't put those roads in last year. That just means extra miles on my bike at the end of the week, being camped on K already adds a few miles to my daily routes. That there's some good old fashioned exercise.

Thanks for that info! You're probably right. 2010 was smaller but we'll have more folk...we'll see how cozy everyone gets!
