Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
Let's play.. Will... It... Fit!!!
3 H12 hexayurts
2 bikes
+ water/supplies for 2 ppl
in one cargo van.
Id prefer to rent a cargo van for ease of use, but may have to upgrade to a 10' box truck if it doesnt fit.
Anyone have any guesses of it we could make a cargo van work?

No. You'd pretty much be filling the entire van with just the yurt. Maybe some room for supplies. +2 bikes sounds way too ambitious.
EDIT: I just noticed, 3 yurts?! Are you kidding?

Re: Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
I forgot to add the dimensions of said cargovan:
Inside dimensions: 9'2" x 5'7-1/2" x 4'5" (LxWxH)
Back door opening: 4'6" x 4'1" (WxH)
My calculations 1 hexayurt folded is 8'x4'x1.5' ? or am I off on the height?

Not sure where you're getting your yurts from and if you now have excess capacity with a box truck but my friend and I are looking to get a yurt. We're coming from Australia and have limited ability to organise the yurt and the trasport.
If you are able to carry another yurt we can contribute to transport costs and help to put them all together.
Ideally we'd also rather just rent or borrow our yurt and leave it behind when we leave the country.

I too am considering bringing a cargo van with the H12 hexayurt. Best I can figure is it will simply take up a 48x96x14" footprint when plywood is used on both sides for transportation protection. This will fit between the 2011 Ford E250 wheel wells by about 1.5" on each side and only come up about as high as the wheel wells, maybe slightly taller. Seems to me there would be plenty of room when you do the math. Am I missing something?
Re: Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
We ran into this problem last year - yurts will fit into a cargo van, but *JUST* barely. In the end we found it easier to wrap the foam panels in tarp and plywood and tie/ratchet strap them down to the roof of the van so we could use the interior space for less rectangular things (bikes, art, you name it).
Re: Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
If you have one thin yurt stack, bins of gear, water jugs, and can strap bikes to the outside, I think it would work. They take up a lot of space, and it's surprisingly difficult to pack a cargo area all the way to the roof, especially with oddly shaped objects.
Re: Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
Follow up: Ended up just going with 12' box truck. I'd say a cargo van may be feasible for 2-3 people and their stuff but we grew to 5 and needed more space.
