Arriving at Burning Man on the 2nd Sunday
Hi Burners,
This will be my first year at Burning Man, and adding to the logistical challenges of going for my first time is my brother's wedding, which is on Saturday 9/5. I'm hoping to leave the Playa for the wedding on Friday, getting an in-and-out pass on my way out, and then head back to the Playa on Sunday for the temple burn.
Will I be able to re-enter Black Rock City on that second Sunday afternoon? I'd probably be getting back to the gate around 3pm.
Thanks for the help!

Honestly while it might be possible to get back on the playa, I think you're better off just leaving for the wedding and calling it a burn. Coming back for three hours to watch the temple burn and leave again isnt really worth the hassle you will likely face. Most of the city is packing up during the day Sunday to get ready to leave right after the temple and are pretty burnt out at that point. Not trying to be negative, just giving you the facts.

I think I'd agree with that.

Don't do it! Don't come back on Sunday. For a few hours of weird packing up and saying good-bye you'll pay dearly by sitting in traffic, (again). I used to be on the exodus road as they lit the match to the man. Now I stay as long as I can but I have never been to the temple burn. Go on home/. Watch it on the live feed and thank your lucky stars that you're not stuck in Exodus line.

Re: Arriving at Burning Man on the 2nd Sunday
I'm aware that coming back is going to be a huge hassle for not a lot of Burning Man, but I wanted to be there for at least one of the big burns and especially to help the rest of our small group pack up our campsite, which is going to be quite the bitch. I've already booked the return flight as well, so the only question I have really is am I physically allowed to re-enter BRC on Sunday afternoon?
Re: Arriving at Burning Man on the 2nd Sunday
The Gate page on the BM site says the gate is open for 24 hours during the duration of the event, and since your arrival would fall in there, I would say it's allowed, but an admin would probably have to confirm there are no exceptions to this. Also there is the rare but certainly possible chance that they close the gate due to capacity or other issues. I don't foresee that as many people dont care about the temple burn and leave before, but stranger things have happened. Have an epic burn!

Admins, can you confirm this?
Re: Arriving at Burning Man on the 2nd Sunday
I ain't an admin but can give you a task.
For that drive up 447 on Sunday, where there is no one but you going in towards burning man , ripping the 70 mph speed limit, and there are 10000 overloaded vehicles with thoroughly burnt out drivers that lingered in exodus for hours going the other way... And a bunch of them have flights to catch in Reno ...
...
So whatever life insurance you may have, go ahead and max that out for September.
You do have life insurance, right?

I've contacted Gate, but I don't know how long it will take for a reply. I'll let you know as soon as I have an official answer.

+10 for being willing to help your camp pack up. That says good things about you IMHO. But damn... I would seriously re-think returning to BRC regardless what Gate says about re-admission.

You are probably aware that there are air shuttle services to the on-playa airport. They are not cheap, but they are not very expensive either. They save a lot of time getting to and from the Reno airport. Daylight operation only.

It took a bit due to the time of year, but I have an official response from Gate. I'll be locking this thread, the OP is free to PM me if they still have questions:
Assuming he follows the in/out policy at http://burningman.org/event/black-rock- ... cture/gate he will be able to re-enter.
Depending on when he actually returns to BRC he may be directed to enter via the 12 mile turn off instead of the normal 8 mile turn off. I mention this only so that he is not alarmed and understands this is normal. It all depends on the time and traffic.
