Ebike protectioon from elements

Post by sharpstick » Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:22 am

Part 1 - We're getting ready to travel cross country with 2 bikes on a rack. I plan to remove the batteries for the trip. We have a rain cover for the bikes, but only use it at night when parked. What's the best way to protect the open battery compartment? I don't trust velcro covers to keep the rain out. I think a piece of plastic with clear gorilla tape is the best way. Also, how vulnerable is the display and other wiring?
Part 2 - What's the best way to protect the battery compartment with the battery in it? I'll leave it sealed with plastic and tape during the event. Also, how vulnerable is the display and other wiring? (Velotric Discover 1 and Biria ST)

Both bikes look like urban scoots, likely designed for that nice, well paved environment.

As the saying goes, don’t bring it unless you can afford the Playa breaking it.

If the bikes are UL 2849 and UL 2271 certified, they probably have a sufficient IPX rating to be rather robust and resilient to the elements.
