Parking in/near Fernley?

A friend and I are meeting up in Fernley in two vehicles and then we're just taking one of them to the event. We've got early passes so we'll be getting in on Saturday which probably opens up some options, but from what I'm reading, parking anywhere off of 447 is frowned upon?

I called Fernley PSP mini-storage and they said $15/day to park there. Seems a bit expensive - any other options?

Just pay the $15 and by doing so, you won't piss off the locals.
