Maybe two.

Chai didn't deserve that.
Clearly already acknowledged, no need for you to play moderator. Good rangers would recognize that. Hey, aren't you a ranger?... Here, have my extra pill. It's a gift.
And the 'Cruiser is scratch-built, has no car underneath.
Has motor bigger than model plane, but throttle is limited to just enough to climb onto it's trailer.

Some perhaps, but good Mutant Vehicles rock, the more outlandish and lighted the better. Think Mobile Art Pieces, rather than personal transporters.

Buzzy gas scooters on the other hand really do...

More like a service pit. That was a couple years ago, BR Rangers were alerted, bla bla bla. Not sure if that was worse than the numerous RV human waste spills I've seen, unintentional and otherwise, but we were talking art cars. Most are true wrecks, in my experience, and the Gerlach ranch is still choked with a number of them that haven't been trailered off to the wrecking yards.

I'd work it like the tickets, sort of.

First hundred or two art cart permits would go to vehicles made entirely of sticks & stones (in-situ).

Next dozen or so to those made of silicates, then pure silica, ceramics, alkali earth metals, then metaloids, true metals, non-terrestrial materials, etc.

I'm dead serious, btw. Fuck your fucking cars. Larry proposed a "pedestrian" city years ago, he just needs the political will to back it up.

No lights on these art cars, or only candles/torches allowed? So your into daytime art only? Why the prejudice against night time art that is lit up? Or are you expecting people to craft EL-wire from the Playa in a hand made crucibles?

I think you may be on to something re:engines - if everything was people powered only (any material allowed otherwise) I bet you would alot fewer "HASLE" type vehicles and more original ones (who would go to all that effort for a HASLE vehicle?). And alot more "participation" by the "passengers"!

Even if there was a limited number of "powered" vehicles with an unlimited number of human powered ones the same effect would be realized.

Utopia, meet Reality. Reality is a total fucking bitch.

Bob, have you met Reality lately? This is America where the car is king. You can dream of your pedestrian city, but even Larry saw the light and realized there are some things you can't beat. Instead you modify your approach.

And you are an engineer. The rest of us are not. The materials you suggested creating art cars from seems unreasonable at first glance. Would you care to elaborate on what you would build from your suggested materials list that also meets MOOP requirements, and is not a logistical nightmare to transport to the playa?

You might want to rethink your approach on this subject.

Ever hear of carbide lamps? Whale oil? Cold fusion?

Accessories may be juried along w/everything else. The junkyard look gets old when you have to deal with it year-round.

Nice...carbon lamps. Whale oil. You want to take us back to the 1800's and frontier Nevada! And drive the cost of the event into the stratosphere for the participants. What's next, hand cranked coffee grinders for center camp?

AFAIK, sticks & rocks & minerals are free, or of minimal cost.

Who says you have to move an art cart at all?

One year all the art cars were parked, and allowed one parade. Deal with it.
