Watch out if you're coming down from the Northwest. You might have to deal with these kinds of militant stowaways:

Not sure if I should keep answering this multiple times per day, but...Sham wrote:How's your real ticket coming along?
So far one offer of an early sale ticket at face value (~$1k) and one general sale ticket being scalped ($390 ticket for $600). A few people have told me directly that they do/will have tickets for me at some unspecified point in the future, but I'm not relying on that.
I did manage to secure a vehicle pass this week.
Have narrowly missed a few tickets on "local" mailing lists, including one that included two more vehicle passes I didn't need and don't yet want the hassle of disposing of.
If you want to make a reply about my personality instead of about what this thread is about, don't clutter this thread, post over here instead.

Is it true what they say about the probes? You know.......the probes.ygmir wrote:I often worry about alien abduction while waiting on Gate road.

That looks like an ad from the back of an old Popular Science Magazine. I kind of miss those.GreyCoyote wrote:

Well done, good entertainment for a couple of pages. Have you considered becoming a fiction writer? I could see you following in the steps of Dean Koontz or Steven King. Magically appearing stowaways, intent on ruining one man's vacation, but maybe with sinister overtones, and perhaps even a threat to all reality as we know it! Good stuff.

Re: What happens if a vehicle is turned away from gate, but the tickets aren't voided?
I think the OP, which was a legit question, has been adequately answered. So, and I hesitate, at the risk of kicking this dead horse a little more, how would Gate know if a vehicle turned away with tickets intact actually went all the way to Reno? What stops a driver from just dropping the offending Jack Wagon off at Fernley or somewhere else & then heading back to the Gate?
This is more of a Gee Wiz question as I never intend on riding in with Sparr(kidding)not kidding.
I have always in the back of my mind wondered/feared about the revoked ticket list. I'm sure some people have bought tickets on that list thinking that they were legitimate tickets only to find out @ gate that they were not. I always check the list just in case but errors do happen & after driving 2000 miles I would probably have a mental breakdown if Gate told me my ticket was revoked & turned me away. I know the odds of that are as slight as someone sitting on my roof without me knowing, but I do sometimes worry about that. Anyone know how many people actually get turned away by Gate? Are there released stats on that?

I think the "go back to reno" thing is probably just something they say to scare people. I can't see how that's even legal, let alone practical.

I'd have to have a military escort in order to ensure I went all of the way back to Reno... Like a Blackhawk helicopter shadowing me, or an H1 with turrets.mudpuppy000 wrote:I think the "go back to reno" thing is probably just something they say to scare people. Ok... A NHP officer would also do the trick.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

It's a good neighbor thing. If the event gets too horrible for the people who live there, they WILL have enough clout to make it not happen there anymore.
Reno is big enough and has plenty of resources to allow a ticketless person to un-fuck themselves. Dumping someone on the side of the road or in a one-horse town is the same as tossing out litter: someone is going to have to come along and clean up that mess for you.

I totally get why they say Reno. That "should" be a no-brainer for anyone needing to dump someone off even if they did hose your first day on Playa. I was just wondering if they had some way of validating that you did the right thing. Like I said, it was more of a Gee-Wiz question than anything else.maladroit wrote:It's a good neighbor thing. They may not be able to tell specifically, but from a statistical basis they can see how many complaints they get from neighboring towns.
