Will my bike get destroyed by the playa?

Canoe's post about 8 psi brings up a question. When I'm doing any serious four wheeling I lower the pressure in my tires on my Jeep. I'd never gave it a thought for my bike on the Playa. I have a gifted 21 speed Schwinn Suburban Mountain Bike that I've use for the last few years on the Playa. As a standard I've always kept the tire pressure at 50 psi. Maybe I should lower it to the minimum on the sidewall, 40 psi? Maybe lower? Hey, Elliot chime in here!

Lower pressure will help in soft dust piles, the dust-filled potholes and general plushness; however, it will make you more prone to pinch flats. I wouldn't go much lower than 30 psi on a 2" (or thereabout) tire. If you have a tubeless tire, that's different and you can go even lower.

Fatbike tires are a different story all together.

A guy here just repainted his aluminum frame white, so he'll be able to see the start of any rust...

How long do you think before the aluminum starts to rust?

I have a decade old aluminum MTB frame that's painted white.

Considering aluminum doesn't rust and steel frames, which can rust, it doesn't come through from inside the tube unless it's been poorly painted, it will probably take a long time.

You should have seen him helping take a mutual friend's 26' sailboat out of the water. I was above with the hoist/crane, ready to lower the slings. He had jumped down to bail out some rain water. He very enthusiastically bailed out all of the water underfoot, and then immediately started wailing away at emptying the water from the bottom of the box. After a while, the owner wandered over to see what was taking so long that I'd been watching for five minutes. He interrupted the water bailer and told him to stop trying to bail the lake out of the motor well.
