Yes, lock the bike.
But, when you park your bike and walk out to the burn and hours later, partly inebriated and trying to find where you left your bike. Then this might help.

I just picked up a couple of hilarious bike alarms. I have no use for them though because I ALWAYS lock my bike. At the potty, in my camp, everywhere except when it's being transported in my van.

After the manburn one year, I searched for two hours looking for my bike. I came across others looking and we grouped together. We had great fun, everyone found their bike but stayed with the group, and then all bikes were found and we went our ways.

Your burn should consider for about 5 seconds the fact you are an idiot, and then move on as the playa still has the potential to provide even more if you can move beyond your self loathing and loss of your transport if you let it...and I don't mean "the playa provides" by having a new bike appear in front of you.

Aloha! Virgin Burner and future Religious Bike Locker here. I have a sort of "silly" question:

When there is no bike rack to lock the bike to, is locking the wheels and frame good enough? Folks aren't walking off carrying locked bikes, are they?

Just trying to get an idea of how things will be in that sense. I can see myself wandering off a bit but I really, really don't want to have to worry about my bike.

Lock the wheel to the frame so the bike cannot be rolled/ridden away.

Most 'thefts' are 'crimes' of opportunity:
High person needs ride, finds wheels, rides away, abandons wherever.

Also, a weirdly/uniquely decorated ride will most likely not get 'appropriated'; it's the plain bikes that wander off.

(19 years. My bike is mutated in the most extreme, unique, unattractive dusty ways. I use a bungee to 'lock' the wheel to the frame. No problems. I also do not park my bike at raves or burns, ever.)

Getting or buying your bike at or on the way to Burning Man .. Bring a lock with you .. Lock the fucking bike every time you get off of it ..

AND Take the bike off playa when you leave ... Be a good citizen, Haul it in... Haul it out .. Leave no trace that you were @ Black Rock city .. Do the dust again next year

Bike locks are so cheap too. They're like $10 at any store. I've even purchased extra ones, and I use one to lock my seat to my bike and have as an emergency in case my primary lock falls off.

I often find lost bike locks on the ground at BM, so I end up coming home with more locks than I enter in with.

Buy one before you get to Reno or somewhere close, or you'll be stuck with the $35 locks for bikes people actually find valuable.

Next time I want to be around the far side of 8:30-ish, by some friends but not in a “camp”.
No set up, no tear down, just roll up and stop.
But I’ll probably be stuck with being near Elliot so that goddamm unjon isn’t too far away, I also moor the boat to him. He’s a regular stick in the mud I tell you.
