Here's 2018 in the 2019 format, so it's easier to compare them. Also with the early entry times.

When you look at the Gate Road and Gate Wait times for BRC 2019 and 2018, you see just how well the structures and crew are doing in recent years. Looks like it's pretty much figured out in response to the 70,000 city size.

When you look into the details at what was happening when the times got longer, it was being handled, except for when there were whiteouts, particularily prolonged whiteouts. Even recovering relatively quickly when the recovery period still including intermittent whiteouts.

So if playa conditions are such that a stronger wind will pick that dust up, we're screwed. We're also screwed when vehicles on Gate Road speed and throw excessive dust up into the air that otherwise would have remained minor.

It will be interesting to hear if there are any horror stories that don't show up in the resolution of the BMT reports.

Except for a 10 minute wait reported at 1 am, BMT has only reported 'no wait' at Gate today. So if Gate is "currently clear, due to the holding of traffic on 447" for the wildfire, what was the Gate Wait all of the hours they didn't report?

Radar shows thunderstorm SW of Gerlach, growing, east edge around halfway across Washoe from the CA border.
4:05 it's twice the size.. direction is unclear
Better radar (radar.weather.gov), it's half the size. Immediately SW of Pyramid Lake.
Looks like it's an along a loose front, storms arcing to the NW.

T-Storms & rain in the hills along I-80 between Sparks and Fernley. On Radar and traffic cams.

4:25
Weird. It's still hanging there on the NW side of Pyramid lake.
The next one in the arc is still just hanging there across the CA border, ESE of Susanville.
The one to the SE is just nudging Wadsworth.

4:30
Finally all three have moved a tiny bit east.
Rain reached Wadsworth and it's on the traffic cam just west of the west end of Wadsworth.

The nasty bit down on I-80 has crossed to north of I-80, still west of Wadsworth while they get the east edge rain. Looks like the west side Wadsworth exit through across Wadsworth is going to get its worst.

The one at Pyramid Lake is a little out on the lake now, but running down some.

Hints of the extended bunch to the NW crossing the CA border are reaching to the east, but it's not clear yet if any will rain on BRC.

4:40
Wadsworth got lucky. That cell dropped from 55 DBZ to 40 DBZ as its centre just started reaching the town.

And some tiny pockets of light rain in the hills north of Gerlach, stretching to the NW.
And a pocket between Pyramid lake and Gerlach. With the cell at Pyramid lake with only some patches of light rain moving across the lake.

447 From I-80 up to Nixon should be thoroughly wet by now
.
Looks like the climb up likely got some rain too.

Traffic cams on I-80 show tires throwing up spray and water collected beside the roadway.

And it looks like the core of the cell along I-80 has a small area back up at 55 DBZ, and it's likely to drift over Fernley.

The Pyramid Lake cell is over the lake now, still with that pocket to the NE with its north end even with Empire.

At the border west of Gerlach, the rain is coming down over a larger area and is not quite halfway from the border to Gerlach, but that's not moving anywhere fast.

5:00 pm
oops. That core went north of I-80 over Wadsworth. The I-80 exchange cams have everything wet. Looks like the I-80 to Wadsworth triangle got drenched.
Nixon was clear for a bit, but is getting wet again from the tailing edge.

Pyramid Lake is almost clear of rain, but there's a cell now across the border lined up for the lake. The rain clearing the lake is wide enough that its east edge is just reaching 447.

Another touch of rain in the hill north of Gerlach. Webcam looks like they're getting some drops in Gerlach. And the 447 between Empire and Gerlach actually looks wet... Can't really tell from the cam. No sign yet on the livestream looking east from Centre Camp.

The rain coming in slowly from the west has reached NW of Gerlach at Smoke Creek Road.
And it's crossing 447 north of Nixon.
Wadsworth is just letting up as that rain moves east and is dissipating.

Traffic cams show that I-80 west of Wadsworth is already drying.

5:16 pm
Radar shows that the air mass raining has changed a bit and Fernley got its rain. And that cell remainder got some strength again and is sitting north of and touching I-80 at Fernley.
The rain at Smoke Creek Road has gone east over the hills north of Gerlach.
And that pocket that was even with Empire has drifted north and is now immediately west of Gerlach.
But the bulk of the rain west of Gerlach is dissipating. Will it or won't it...

5:21 pm
The north and south side of I-80 at Fernley is getting hammered.

Radar showing the light rain reaching over the hill west of BRC. As that comes over its east side, if there's enough of that rain, it will flow down to the road and over onto the edge of the playa. This makes passage there, getting on or off the playa, impossible until that dries out enough. Even without rain falling on the playa.
.

The bulk of the rain to the west continues to dissapate nicely. Maybe that rain won't be rain by the time it reaches BRC.

BMT at 5:36 says "dark clouds"

Rain already reaching the hill west of BRC.
It's one thing if rain or runoff reaches the edge of the playa and closes getting on/off the playa. It's entirely another thing if rain falls on those on Gate Road trying to get into BRC. And worse again if rain falls on BRC and shuts down 99% of movement.
As in, the playa dust/soil turns to sticky mud that sticks to tires. Those trying to drive and that mud packs into wheel wells, locking vehicles in place. Bikes are no go. Walking is difficult. Trucks can't empty porta-potties... and so on.

Radar shows 447 at CR34 getting light rain. And tiny patch of light rain out along CR34 at the edge of the playa: maybe after the playa entrance enough...

5:59 on livestream
