Water filling outside of Reno?

Post by ericthewrench » Fri Aug 26, 2005 4:02 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew of a water filling station, in Gerlach, or some where on the way from Oregon? I am driving down from Portland, and I need to fill up with 45 gallons, the closer to BRC the better, and I am trying to avoid driving 150+ miles out of the way to fillup in Reno. Kalamath Falls, Alturas, Susanville? Thanks in advance.

Vamos a jugar con la playa!

I do know the Empire General Store is asking that no one fill up with more than 5 gallons at their location.

Water Spigot behind Chevron in Alturas

Grab all you want -- It's on the side of the Food Mart,
which is part of the Chevron (on a main road) in Alturas.

Thanks for the quick replies! So, does that refer to the Empire food mart? And is that a filtered or a municipal water source?

Also to AntiM, I have been reading a lot of the eplaya for months in preparation for my first burn, your frequent posts of wisdom have been really awesome, thanks!

Alturas is in California along U.S. 395. It's not near Empire at all.

OK, no one has mentioned this but stealing water is stealing. I'm not trying to get high and mighty here, but, I also don't want Burners getting a bad name. There are plenty of places on I-80 (truck stops, travel centers, etc) that have a place where you can fill your potable water needs. Besides, I don't think I'd trust "the faucet out back" (especially if this is the drinking water for everyone in your camp.

hmmm...confusion. So to clarify, I am looking for a place to legally purchase, or obtain about 45 gallons of water somwhere on the way from portland. And I know that Empire and Alturas are completly seperate towns, the post refering to the Chevron was a little vague...I was hoping that somone had experience with a specific place. I probably will just fill up at a truck stop, but I don't remember any after kalamath falls, and I won't be driving on I80, just 58,97,39,139,299...thanks again

Well, someone else asked this question.

What I would do if I were you I would to be just to stop at a truck stop / travel center on whatever highway you're on and ask them about getting drinking water (and make sure it's potable). They'll either have it or they'll tell you where you can get it. If all else fails, go to the places listed in the thread, above. They're really not far out of your way.

Fill Up for Free

The folks at Chevron didn't mind last year.

It's in Alturas, on the 299 at the 395 intersection.

Spigot around the side of the Food Mart there
(part of the Chevron station).

They like Burners -- Not as cheap as the Rainbow
Tribe of last year.
