Anyone looking for a campervan with wheelchair lift?

Post by villager » Sat Jul 01, 2023 1:38 pm

Sad story. My brother, 74, was living homeless on the streets of LA in a broken-down Prius, when, in the winter, kids smashed the windows out. Wheelchair bound, an amputee due to gangrene, his friend called me to say he was in danger of freezing to death. Renting a room was too costly, and he was somewhat delusional, so she suggested I buy him a campervan with a heater and bed. I live in New Zealand, but on Craigslist I found something really nice and my cousin in Thousand Oaks offered to be boots on the ground, so we bought it.

It looks like those vans the rental car shuttles drive; this one had been owned by a retirement home who drove it 15,000 miles a year and maintained it by the book. This 2006 Ford E-450 Transit Van had been converted by the second owner to a camper, with a bed, kitchen (no bathroom), desk, tables, chairs and luxuries like a big TV, stereo as well as three batteries and a solar panel. We also bought and had installed a Ricon wheelchair lift (800 lb capacity) in the back door. Total cost about $16,000. But before he could move in, my brother broke his hip and died in the hospital of complications.

My cousin was just supposed to be handing over the cash for the campervan and move my brother in. But now it is in his driveway in Thousand Oaks, and I really am imposing on his good will. It's got to go, even if it means taking a significant loss.

It would be good for Burning Man. If the buyer does not need a wheelchair lift it can be removed and sold (on eBay they go for $1,500), or it can be used to lift and store a small ATV or motorbike inside. The AC runs cold and the van has curtains on the windows and a pop-up skylight sunroof.

We are open to offers and if it does not sell, I may list it on eBay with a $1 no-reserve to find the market. It passed its last smog test, has a clean California title and currently registered, ready to go. To see photos and description, go to https://terms.pics/. Contact details on the web page, or send me a private message. Serious inquiries only, please. We're tired of the scammers telling us to send them our bank details and they will have UPS collect it because they are in the Army on deployment in Antarctica.

Have a wonderful time at Burning Man 2023 - wish we could be there, but with Climate Change getting serious, air miles from the other side of the planet, not to mention the doubling of air fares, are curbing our travel habits.
