Speed Limit outside of BRC

Post by Charlie_in_OC » Mon Aug 06, 2007 3:07 pm

Need to pick up a campmate at the Black Rock airport.

Does the 5MPH speed limit still apply to Art Cars once outside of the city?

Thanks!

Yes - 5mph applies anywhere you might be taking the car during the event. It's not as if the airport is miles away - it's just outside the camping area.

The road leading to the airport is upwind of lots of the city - please heed the 5mph limit or we will be eating your dust!

There is no 'outside of the city' as far as art cars go. The areas adjacent to the outside area of the trash fence which I believe still includes the airport are established buffer zones set up by the BLM and the BM org and allow for no motorized vehicles. Special approval for staff are about the only exceptions and even then only for official BM business.

So, to get back to your question 5mph is the rule of the day for all vehicles.

Actually - 5 MPH or producing no dustcloud, whichever is LESS.

So if you're kicking up dust at 5 MPH, slow down!

Because remember - the purpose behind art cars is not transportation - it's the mobile art.

Have a happy, happy doom...

They all said it well. Don't worry, you'll be reminded at the gate, and again at the DMV when you register your vehicle (which you'll need to do before you can go riding around the city and picking people up at the airport).

As you drive your mutant vehicle, keep checking the mirror as well as the speedometer. If you see dust kicking up behind you, slow down. There's no rush anyways, in a place like BRC the journey is often times just as much fun as the destination :)
