I am considering bringing my rowbike to burning man. I do not mind the maintenance issues as I need to overhaul it anyway. It is about the same size of a regular bike, has 20 in wheels.
I am worried more about theft (it is banged up but could probably be worth $500 or so on ebay) and other issues involving interactions with other people.
See www.rowbike.com for description.
Is bringing a 'row bike' to burning man stupid?

Meet with me early in the week and I'll steal your bike for you. You still won't have it, but at least you'll know where it is.geo8rge wrote:I am considering bringing my rowbike to burning man. I am the people your parents warned you about.

Two conflicting thoughts:geo8rge wrote: I am worried more about theft and other issues involving interactions with other people.
1.) The Rule of Playa Valuables. If you value it, don't bring it. It will get scratched, dented, fondled, bitten, spilled on and dustified. Count on it. If this bums you out, leave it at home.
2.) Just bring a good bike lock. The walnut-sized brains of MOST of the Playa Bike Thieves are just looking for easier ways to get from point A to point B. Any unsecured bike will do. Plus, it seems like a row bike would require more of a learning curve to the casual thief.
2b.) The one percent of thieves who ARE out to steal bikes for keeps? Well, that could happen anywhere, so what can you do? There're SO many cool bikes out there, I, frankly wouldn't be worried about yours standing out.
Have fun!
Irony. You're soaking in it.
